Dude you spent four years studying chemistry and by this time have taken plenty of classes with labs and you should feel that you have the ability to make sense out of chemistry or at least know where to begin to find the answers. I am currently finishing up my doctorate in chemistry and I think I know how you feel. You start to question your wits about the field of chemistry because there are so many disciplines with emphasis on different things i.e. analytical compared to organic. But let me reassure you that the basic understanding you have acquired with your BS will more than prepare you for a career in chemistry. You learn the most, not in class, but at the job. Experience is everything. Oh and for the record I am little scared of homebrewers out there claiming to have the same knowledge as a "chemist." There is alot of shit going on in any type of reaction, and something just as simple as a different isomer of your product can kill you. So try not to give hasty advice. No disrespect though, just a little cautious.
