Isn't ND's team name and mascot based on a stereotypical, aka racist, depiction of Irish Americans? How come it's alright to have the Drunken Honkies...errr, Fighting Irish...and to wear a Dago T or go Dutch on a date, but even inferring something in regards to blacks or browns is a hanging offense? |
WOW, this is quite the debate. I'd have to say because the wounds are still semi-fresh. Unfortunately, racisim and hate crimes were very prevelent and the norm not long ago. I don't think its right that alot of people have this "i'm entitled" attitiude, but I understand were it comes from. The best way to aleviate this is doing what we do on this board, discuss and share thoughts and feelings, to understand and discourse with each other. Interesting stuff.
