A lot of moderates would have viewed that as progress and stayed with Bush, same with a lot of Reps that are tired of Bush.
IMO, the Reps have been complete failures for the past few years. After passing tax cuts they havent accomplished a damn thing. With a significant majority of the House and Senate they couldnt get anything done on Social Security, budget reforms, nothing. All they needed was some good negotiations with the Dems and finding a middle ground on SS and we all would have been much better off. Instead, they have spent like crazy, with entitlement handouts way up since the Reps took office, and Bush afraid of vetoing anything. "Republican" no longer means standing for small government and reasonable spending. It means huge government and out of control spending.
Im not the least bit surprised that the Reps lost both the House and Senate. Assholes should have done their freakin job while they had the chance. Im sick of people from both parties planting their ground at polar opposite ends of the spectrum and not making the least bit of an effort to do their job and pass decent legislation. And the ones who are moderate are basically thrown under the bus. Look what the Dems did when Lieberman decided to run as an independent. Guilliani isnt particularly liked by uber-conservatives because of his stance on some social issues. I think those two are some of the few decent guys who really do want to make a difference, but they are grossly overshadowed by the extremists on both sides. | I have yet to see a sensible plan from the republicans in the last six years. Do they actually have a plan?
