This is a good question, my understanding is to push as much weight as you can with decent form to failure and beyond. Thats how they train, now the older less advanced people and women train the way you say because there is less chance of injury and easier.

I have trained both ways and there is no question as far as im concerned your muscles get taxed more training the way Coleman, Cutler do. Heaver weights mean more stress = more muscle.
