Prodigy, did Admin really make you change your avatar?

Chris, either you have vascularity or you don't... it's partly genetic and partly bodyfat levels. If you stay warm and are carbed up right, the veins should be popping when you get out on stage.

Good luck!~

1>Genetics
2>Low BF
3> Higher than normal, or higher than your normal BP
4> Carbing up properly.
I have heard a new fad whereby people are ingesting large ammounts of alchohol, specifically white wine in the final moments/hours before a show, Ive heard that it can tighten and make your skin more transparent.......I have my doubts though.

The idea of wine before prejudging is not new. People have been using this for at leat 20 years that I know of. It is not a lot though, it is usually a couple of swigs about 30mins before going on to stage. I personally do not subscribe to this. Now a days, I believe it is better to do viagra and non flushing niacin before the contest.

None of this will make up for high body fat and poor contest prep. This is primarily dependent upon how you have carb/fat loaded anyways. There are some new products out there that I have been trying to get feedback on that are vaso dilaters like Synthetek's Synthelator that sounds really promising but I have yet to find someone who actually has used this product.

Viagra lowers BP one of its characteristics right? Do you know specifically why it may increase vasculiarity?

Hello Fibre,
High BP isn't what makes one look more vascular. Don't confuse high BP with the various poses which bring out the veins when holding your breath and flexing.

Both viagra and niacin are well known for helping bring out vascularity... and both products lower blood pressure levels. These products both allow the blood vessels to relax, and thereby enlarge, and the blood flow is not restricted. It is this process which actually makes ones vascularity increase. There are many vasodialators (this is what niacin and viagra do) on the market nowadays which profess to make ones vascularity more pronounced, I'd say it's hit and miss as to how effective they really are.

Keep in mind heat will always work. It's the body's natural method of staying cool. As the body heats up, the blood vessels naturally come closer to the surface to allow the circulating blood to radiate heat through the skin. So one of the things I do and recommend is to stay covered up and warm right up until time to go onstage. Keeping in mind a minute or two for final oil touch-up.

The wine thing doesn't actually work that well and as SB says, has been around forever. My first contest was 20 years ago and I was told then to drink a wine and sugar solution half an hour before going on stage. Can't say I really noticed much benefit.

You are certainly correct as regards the genetics, low BF and carbing up properly.

Best to you,
MaxRep

Great explanation MAX. I forgot about the heat thing. I have even been at some summer shows where friends of mine have had access to warm up with wieghts outside in the Sun. Even seen blow dryers being used for that and to touch up the last minute Pro Tan.

Ahhh. I was thinking about overall BP being more closely related to ventricular pressure (chamber pressure) and stroke volume but I guess thats more of a medical position. Alchohol is a dilater and relaxer maybe that's why that trend got started, to help holding long posses? when I was back in the millitary I used to do one LSD run a week after a few beers and I always noticed I could feel any lactic acid lol.
