Yeah, I didn't care for it much at all. It was different, but not that good, IMO. The Grudge was the same way....made no fucking sense and was just plain stupid.

Amen! The Grudge sucked some of the biggest monkey balls in recent film history. Unoriginal, uninspired, typical hollywood trash. Didn't they just cut and paste scenes from The Ring and pretend it was new material? LOL God that movie bit ass! THL- It's an older movie. Probably 2000ish. |

You guys and your low IQs lol, only in america would you find jobs!! ![]() The movie and film is a dark satire on materialism, patrick bateman is driven insane by the materialistic world he lives in and how trying to fit in there has made him a shell of a human being, he simply isnt there as he says. It was written by bret easton ellis at a time when his success from less than zero propelled him into the yuppie world at a time of his own depression and he wrote it from that stand point. As for the ending - there are 2 interpretations - he was psychotic and hallucinating it all, or he did those things but the greed of people around him made them cover it up. EG murders in a very expensive building would wreck the prices there so they were swept under the carpet. As for his mistaken identity that also can be explained by the fact everyone is a generic cookie cutter version of everyone else "paul allen goes to the same barber but i have a slightly better haircut" etc etc |

The movie is more of a comedy farce, read the book it's very very dark and has some horrific torture scenes, eg he cuts out a woman's vagina while she is alive with some scissors. the satire and his total emptiness is more apparent in the book too. I cant believe some of you havent heard of the book/film, it was hugely notorious about 5 years ago |

I read the book (actually twice), didn't want to watch the movie because the book was too good and I didn't want to ruin it with a bad movie. The story is all about the way you look, most important thing to the "modern society", and what you actually do, which is meaningless, even if in the book what Pat Bateman does is taken to the extreme, to underline that appearence is everything. And it's also all about lonlyness. Pat Bateman, even if being rich and loved with beautiful women, partying every day and paying 500$ for a restuarant, he needs to do awful things to feel himself alive. BTW Ronin, have you also read Glamorama by Bret Eston Ellis? |
