Paxil has been approved by the FDA for social anxiety. It's a selective seritonin reuptake inhibitor.

Paxil CR is on of the few SSRI's (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) indicated and approved for social anxiety disorder. I actually work for GSK and market Paxil CR to Psychiatrists and Family Practice docs. However, for short term relief, I would discourage you from taking any type of drug that affects your brain chemistry on a short term basis; because you are altering the brain chemistry and also which can lead to severe behavioral disorders, including worsening the onset of your social anxiety. On all SSRI's there is a "black box warning" which states that short term use and abrupt discontinuation could cause feelings of suicide (but this was observed among adolescents in double blind, clinical trials), but that's something that should also cause some concern. With Paxil CR, it's recommended that the first 6 months is the Response Phase, and then there after upto 18 months is the Maintence Phase. It's recommended to take Paxil CR for 18 months to get remission (a stage where there is significant symptom improvement).

If you really are serious about getting on an SSRI, I would highly recommend Paxil CR because it has the lowest incidence of adverse events versus all other SSRI's across the board, as well as, the the Pharmakinetic profile of Paxil CR vs. all other immediate release SSRI's was very noticable. With Paxil CR, the drug in blood serum levels was spread out over time (24 hour period), so there was even amounts of drug released in the blood which caused lower carbohydrate cravings, where as other immediate release SSRI's have this peak and then a rapid drop in the pharmakinetic profile which means greater carbohydrate cravings. Shit, I hope that I am not trying to give you the idea of me selling you on this, but I would like to give you as much information on Paxil CR as possible. One thing that really sucks about the Paxil CR issue, is that actual physical samples are not presently available, but you can get a month worth of vouchers from your MD, which can give you free Paxil CR for a month, once you go to pick up your prescription at the pharmacy. Hopefully this information gave you more background on Paxil. Oh one more thing, if you do decide to get on Paxil, make sure you go with Paxil CR because it's controlled release, where there is also Paxil IR, which is immediate release, once again, it's all about the pharmakinetic profile. Take care bro, hope I helped out some how.

hi there that did help on paxil, i have tried it before but it raised my prolactin levels alot and caused short term and thankfully none permament slight gyno, plus weight gain of about 14 pounds. Oddly enough though it sent my libido pretty high, as i have read raised prolactin lowers testosterone in fact many SSRIs make guys hypogonadal.

The anxiety is just short term large events, everyday im pretty confident. I wanted to stay away from benzos like ativan as again they crush the libido through lowering dopamine

Damn bro, well I'm sorry that you have those adverse events, especially the prolactin serum changes and the gyno, but thankfully it was only temporary. Yeah, unfortunately with SSRI's some of the side effects are far greater than the typical nausea, vomitting, or diarrhea. But, a majority of these side effects are class effects, some are greater and more prevalent than others with the various SSRI's. Well, I wish you the best of luck man, and glad to be somewhat of a resource for you. Take care bro.

My friend works for a Pharm company so he has friends in other Pharm companies .. anyway,he took Paxil for a few weeks just because he has trouble talking to girls, like alot of guys do. He said he was so relaxed around them so obviously it worked and worked good. the things he didn't like was it was very hard or impossible to ejaculate and he got depressed when he stopped

hey brotha, just curious, how can test. help overcome social anxiety? i never knew it does something with the serotonin or dopamine receptors in the brain. i guess it may give you more confidence, and help with the libido, because you are looking more defined/bigger; but how can test. improve neurological funtion? just curious, because i am planning to do a cycle of test. prop. and winni. in decemeber, so just wanted to know. thanks!!!!

oh yeah, i wanted to comment on your view Manwhore, but the major side effect with Paxil CR is abnormal ejaculation, which in some cases may not be a bad thing. I have a few Internal medicine docs. that write scripts of Paxil CR to their male patients that have a problem with premature ejaculation. Many SSRI's have this know side effect because the change in regulation of the serotonin and dopamine receptors in the brain. I personally liked Xanax XR when I was going through my depression stage. It helped me stay calm, and didn't stress about anything. Great drug, but the side effects where very parallel to the benefit of the drug as well. But eventually weaned off of the drug.

how would you explain a greatly increased libido on paxil that i had?

I will detail more of the anti-anxiety im looking for - i have ulceration in my stomach and otherside effects now from chronic alcohol mis-use - not every night drinking but binge drinking.

When i go on dates sober, i dont have much fun, and have a very low conversion rate of getting them into bed. I hate being in town bars sober.Once ive been on a couple of dates its all good and i prefer sex sober as it feels better

Now i have a few choices - stay sober 6 months or so and let my body heal - very good idea + use alternative means to relax and get more from dates. but NOT use harder rec drugs as i dont want to.

Sober + total sober dating = building real confidence and no drug use.

Sober + dont go on dates until my health is better then drink in moderation.

Ronin my friend, you have to admit this is a pretty deep-seated problem so I would strongly urge you to consider counselling with or without meds. In fact, you might want to consider going into psychoanalysis with a reputable psychiatrist (not unqualified quacks who call themselves psychotherapists). I'm in psychoanalysis and it's done me a world of good.

About your experience with Paxil ... Paxil's main impact on sexuality is its tendency to stop guys from ejaculating and having orgasms but it's actual effect on libido is much less prevalent. So in my case I ended horny as hell and nearly bent over with blue balls all day, but my libido was actually quite strong.

I suspect that Paxil enhanced your libido because your anxiety is a symptom of depression, and depression reduces libido (as well as testosterone levels). So by taking the Paxil you addressed the depression issue and your libido sprang back to normal.

If I were in your shoes, I would choose the option "Sober + total sober dating = building real confidence and no drug use", altho throwing in Paxil would probably be a good idea if it worked for you before.

Look, why not be less obsessed about bedding every girl you date and focus more being more selective and taking the time to get to know the girl? I betcha you'd have a lot more fun in the long run and might even find someone you'd want to nest with. It's not like you need any more notches on your belt, right? I think you've broken some records in that department already.
