Ok I was in class tonight and I learned that in Michigan you don't need any thing to be an athletic trainer. As long as you meat the requirements of the place you are working for what ever they may be (most places require you to be certified but not all) you can be an athletic trainer. That seams strange and I think only Michigan and west virginia are the only two states like this. Any way now to my question, Who regulates personal trainers? If I hold myself out to the public as a trainer but I am not yet certified what could happen? Before anyone says it I am not looking for an easy way out I just started the home study course a few days ago (ACE) and it is only going to take 2 months or so to finish but I was wondering what could happen if I started early. Thanks for any help Thick Rick |

I don't think anything could happen to you for starting early. I don't even think you need to be certified, it is just a selling point. Whatever you do, however, have a lawyer write you up a form that states you are not liable for any injuries that can occur during training and have your clients read and sign a copy before you start. Just to be on the safe side in this sue happy country we live in.
