I can see traffic as about the only reason. But what do I know, I dont live in Hurricane Country.

Traffic mostly. I've got family that left south Houston at 2am and by 11am had travelled 40 miles! They had to turn around and head back because they were running out of gas. All the gas stations are sold out of gas so you can't even fill up. My grandma said that yesterday she was at the grocery store and everyone she talked to said they planned on leaving. Today she said that everyone she talked to planned on staying. They just feel like they can't leave. My grandfather is sick enough that there is no way he could tolerate a 20hr drive. Not to mention the risk of running out of gas on the hwy. Then what do you do? |

Even in Austin. You can't buy bottled water or batteries. Home Depot has sold out of generators. My wife went to the grocery store about an hour ago. She said that all the bottled water was gone. Bread, milk, canned food. All gone. It's unreal. I have never seen anything like this.

I'm stuck , I-45 is a parking lot up here north of Houston. Its a 12 hour drive right now to Dallas and that is where I am heading. They are just now opening up all lanes both north and south to Dallas, that should ease traffic somewhat. Everyone left at one time, this has caused massive backups out of the city. 4 million people in Houston and surrounding areas are all heading either north or west to San Antonio. I have the windows taped and all of the backyard equipment in the garage. The truck is full of gas so the wife, kid and dog are all piling in the truck at about 5:00 CST. I would rather be sitting in traffic at night than in this 100 degree heat. Gas is scarce along the freeway system and people are running out in abandoning there vehicals. Gov. Rick Perry has sent tanker trucks up and down the freeway to give them a gallon or so to get them up the road a little further. Got my gear in a special cooler, wish me and all around the area luck. |

12 hours is a stretch goal, it will possibly more like 15 to 18. If I can make it to Buffalo in 12 hours then I will be good to go. I am fully aware of the timelimits ahead of me. Thanks for the good wishs CyniQ, you take care too, this damn thing is big. |
