Anyone in or near Destin,FL?

I go to Destin (actually Sandestin) a lot during the summer, and will be going again next week for about 2 weeks. The only problem is that I can't ever find a decent gym there, i.e. one where I can at least do deadlifts without being asked to stop like I was last time I worked out at the Gold's Gym there. If any of you know of a good one, please LMK.

This is just a general tip, I don't live there: Type it into a search engine. Type 'Destin, Florda Gyms' and see what happens. If that doesn't work, go to mapquest.com and type in the city name and then look for gyms. If you are looking for a small, hardcore one they may not be found on those sites, so your best best would be the phonebook then.

how far is that from orlando?

I have already tried the search engine approach and found a few and I have also looked in the phone book down there, it's just it is hard to find a good one down there period. BTW, it is far from Orlando, it is not far from Alabama in the panhandle about 45 min away from Panama City.

I used to live in Ft. Walton Bch. I was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base. The base has the best gym in the area. If you know someone that is there they can get you in.

Matt, I doubt I'll be down there then but if something changes I'll let you know. When you're down there,though, there is one good place I worked out at in "downtown" Destin called Hardcore Fitness or something like that, it's right where all the shops and all that are right before the bridge to Ft. Walton Beach. I would just work out there, but I'll be in Sandestin which is about 30-35 min away which is too far for me to go on vacation.

Bump - JDub - I tried calling information on Hardcore Fitness, and they didn't have a listing for it.

Is it a good hardcore gym? I can't handle Gold's and 24 fitness bullcrap. All I need is a power rack, a good bench (that I can put in the powerrack) and a good bar.

I don't care if it's air conditioned, if there is electricity in the place, etc. I just need a shit ton of weight and the aforementioned items.

Last time I went on vacation to Houston, MD told me to go to his gym. It was a 24 hour fitness. The place charged me $10 every time I stepped foot in the door, wouldn't allow chalk (how was I supposed to deadlift?), had the shittiest benches in history (like someone rubbed wax paper on them they were so slick), had nothing but high school kids and chicks working on there, etc. I can't deal with that stuff.

I'm preparing for a meet and absolutely have to find somewhere to lift in Destin.

Please help guys.

ps - what I would really like to find is a powerlifter's home gym or an Olympic lifting gym or something down there. I can't handle all you gay ass bodybuilders.

There used to be a Powerhouse Gym in downtown Ft Walton that was pretty good, but that was several years ago. Destin and Sandestin are great, I will be back there next summer.

The newer 24 Hr Fitness Gyms in Houston do suck, but 24 Hr bought the Golds and World Gyms that were in Houston and converted them. If you go to one of those, they re still pretty good.

JDub - tell me more about Hardbody Fitness (I think you called it Hardcore fitness earlier), but I believe it's Hardbody Fitness.
