Default Colleges in Texas

I have about 2 years of college under my belt. Leavin for the Corps in November and IF I decide to go back to school and become an officer (I emphasize "if"), I want to go to school in Texas. Where would you guys recommend? A & M, Austin, etc? I am not concerned about which school has a better program for what, I just want to know which one is preferred and why. Let me hear some thoughts...

thanks

A & M brutttha! The place is a haven. I only wish I had gone there years ago They have this Friday night pep rally before every home game that draws 30,000. Talk about pick up potential and these girls are totally smoooookin' hot!

College Station is a conservative town too, so you get smarter people then your liberal college towns. Let's face it, conservatives are smarter then liberals

TU is great too. However there is a lot more attitude from those kids where A & M is much more friendly. But then again, Austin is one of the best cities in America.

Have a nice day

thanks for the insight bro. well i already got myself the perfect gal....shes worried enough about me leaving and being a Marine. By the time I get going back to school, she will be living with me, so the single life isnt really where im aiming at. i guess im lookin more for the conservative, friendly, live-lonestar-music-rich environment where I can drive my truck, play my guitar, play 12-inch softball, take AAS , drink beer and just have an enjoyable experience without having to walk through the quad and see people disgracing our nation's flag, having anti-war rallies, and people talking down to you because you are in uniform. the last college i went to fuckin sucked. dont get me wrong, great party environment....actually too great. you get burned out too quickly and people are whiny, liberal, assfucks....all of them

thanks again though

Well my friend then Texas A & M is perfect for you. It's a great school and the people are great. Very friendly, very pro-military and just a great experience.

Keep us informed.

I agree w/Tech, bro. I got my BBA there. Lubbock is a good town for what you're looking for....conservative, bible belt, more of a home-town atmosphere vs big city. The weather can be a pain in the ass at times. Spring is rough due to the wind and dirt, and it gets below zero plenty durning the winter. College Station would be hotter/more humid, but milder winters, less wind, etc. The people at A&M seem a little too fanatical for me. Whatever floats your boat.

A&M bro....with your military background, i dont think you could stand the t-sips.
you would hate t.u. with all the hippies in school. Lubbock is too far from the other cities. A&M is only 90 miles from houston and 90 miles from Austin.

I agree, check out A&M. I got my BBA and MBA from there. When you get your degree from there, you will not believe how much the Aggie Network will help you out in your career. There is a very strong loyalty to that school from the student body and the grads. A&M used to be a military school and still maintains a lot of those traditions, so there is tremendous respect there for the military. I strongly suggest you go visit there, preferably on a football weekend. I make it up there for almost all of their home games.

Borracho is right, Northgate is a good place to go. You have to check out the Dixie Chicken when you are there.

Well, I have 2 B.A.'s from Baylor University, and I liked it there. However, I am a Christian conservative white male. If you arent Christian or conservative, Baylor is not the place for you.

I would not go to Texas A&M myself, because for about the same grades and same price, you could attend UT at Austin, which is a far better school academically.

Not to mention, if you want an advanced degree, you can just stay in Austin because UT's graduate and advanced degree programs smoke the shit out of every other school in the state.

However, in Austin, there are a lot of liberals and crazies, so you have to be able to tolerate that as well.

Just pick the school that best fits your needs. I would go to a public school, because SMU, TCU, Baylor, etc. are VERY expensive, and offer no academic advantage (generally) over UT or A&M. In state, UT and A&M cost peanuts.

P.S. If you have a military background, then the obvious choice would be A&M. Its a great school, but you will have to put up with the jokes for a lifetime

thanks alot for all the input. i dont mean to sound like a dipshit, but i am not worried about which school offers a better education i only need that degree (and it doesnt matter what in) and i can get into Officer Training. If im lucky, i may get to go into the MECEP program where you are still a full time Marine, ggetting Sgt's pay, getting tuition/books/fees paid for along with housing. You just have to be a part of NROTC. still dont know what i want to do. i might like the enlisted life too much to go be an officer. time will tell

looks like A&M is where im gonna look at. id like to get down there to visit sometime in the next few years.

take care

KTCKsports,

bro, not a personal attack, but aggie U is a shithole town! To even attempt to compare it to a school like THE university of Texas is laughable. First of all, for the money, UT has academia which is NATIONALLY ranked!! their fuckin business school, where i got my finance degree, is THIRD in the nation amongst public universities.....3rd!! A&M is nowhere near that. Now, being from Austin, and UT, and being open-minded (no, im not a liberal, although they do exist here, i actually consider myself a libertarian), I can actually be an adult and be objective and say that A&M has good academics. In fact, it is a rather damn good university. Not as good as Texas, but ATM [machine] is not bad. They even have a pretty good business school also. Now, unfortunately, they lose the entire race when it comes to everything else.
First of all, if you are a redneck and are about as open-minded as a rock, then AM is good for you. Jesus, all the people there are white baptists (yes, im white) and there is NO culture there at all! Christ, it is really sad to visit that "town" that is college station. Flat, desolate, hot, and filled with ignorant rednecks. There isnt shit to do in that town (and please, you cannot make any kind of case for the "Chicken", the fact that it is the only mentioned bar usually is sad) and you will go insane. Im sorry, i love culture. I love being able to go and eat mexican food one day, then vietnamese food, sushi, etc. I love being able to see other people besides white people who all wear abercrombie or boots and plaid shirts.
Now, Austin is such a lively city, a cultural mecca if you will. It is the "Live Music Capital of the WORLD", for starters, it has several lakes (can we say college chicks in bikinis?), there is 6th street, the Hill country, numerous parks, theatres, numerous live music venues, AWESOME barbecue (Salt-Lick, Rudy's, County Line, Stubbs)...Man, i could go on and on. Yes, like i mentioned earlier, there are "different" people here but you know what? It's those different people who make life more interesting, who are artistic and creative, who go on to form bands like Sublime, Nirvana, etc. I highly doubt anything artistic/creative has ever emerged out of AM. Im sorry, of course im biased, but there is just no comparison.
Oh, and as far as women, both UT and AM have beautiful women, no school really has an advantage. but then again, Texas is home to very beautiful women overall. Also, as far as being able to have a good time and do AAS, man, you will never get dirty looks here or any of that shit. I lived in Houston for awhile after I graduated and those fat-asses there always talked shit about anybody that was remotely in shape. Austin just recently ranked 3rd fittest city in the nation (oh yeah, they were also ranked 3rd most intelligent city[based upon number of inhabitants with college degrees, school system, voter participation, libraries, etc]) and MANY people here exercise frequently, lift weights regularly, etc. and I have known several competitive BB'ers here. People actually respect you for BB'ing and i've actually gotten many compliments/intelligent questions from people here.
To sum it up, dont throw your life away at Texas Agricultural and Mechanical U (HAHAHA, that should just about sum them up), come to Austin to have a GREAT college exp. to all the Gaggies reading this, im sorry you had to go to school in such a shithole. And to any Longhorns reading this, HOOK 'EM, we'll whup AM again this year too!

Hey Mike,

I used to be a TU fan years ago. However over the last couple of years, all of the TU students I run into are first-rate, arrogrant a-holes. Everywhere I turn people that go to your school think their shit don't stink. Every time I run into somebody from your school, it's always the always that they are better then everyone else.

Austin is great, one of best cities in the country. TU does have a great academic program but A&M is very good too. It's not as highly ranked but it's very good. And you can't compare school spirit between TU and A & M. Aggies are weird in that they have this bond that I cannot explain. They are a little weird, but that what makes the school so great. The people are much friendlier too- no doubt about it.

Now I realize we live in Texas- best state in the country, but we are only supposed to treat people from other states like they are below us. Like people from New York or Oregon for instance. TU students treat everybody poorly. Like I said, I used to be a fan- but I am no longer one. Plus you have to admit that based on Airbone's record of military service and politcal background, A & M is the perfect choice for him.

Have a nice day

Bro,

Yeah, perhaps given what he is looking for am would be a better school.. WEll, i dont know what to say regarding snobby bastards. I might even have to agree with you there. Now, dont people have to realize that now everyone from Texas is an arrogant asshole, but there are some very, very rich kids who go to Texas, join the most expensive frats/sorrorities, and go to a 4 year party, hoping to perhaps get out in 6. Trust me, I have known some of them. Cant vouch for why they r like that, but that is really a minority. Very small. But, on the same hand some pretty rich, oil family boys go to am too. but, none theless given what he is lookin for perhaps settling for am would be a good choice.

If you are lookin to party there is no choice like Texas State(formerly Southwest Texas). A&M is alright but is fool of arrogant rednecks! I go there from time to time to party. There are tons of girls everwhere in college towns so you won't have to worry. If you are going for academics then definitely UT!!!!!!!! Which would be my choice...6th street is kick ass!

i guess we should stop bashing the t-sips. look at what this bro is looking for. t.u. as well as many other TX schools have excellent academics. however, i think Texas A&M would be perfect for "Airborne". he isnt looking for a "party school".
i dont think a marine would feel too comfortable at t.u. and even t.u. people should know that...
as far as academics, we all know it's how much you put into the program that counts. i know t.u. engineers who have been layed off and their jobs given to Ags and vice versa.....
also, i know several people who went to small non-Div-1 schools who make more
$$$ 2-3 years out than aggies and 'horns.

as far as "..SMOKING...", let's leave that to Ricky Williams and C.Benson....
poor Ricky---giving up millions of dollars for a $3/day habit.
