Many, if not most, anabolic steroid users have enlarged hearts (i.e. left ventricular hypertrophy). Many, if not, most, serious weightlifters have LVH as well - independent of their steroid use. This, in and of itself, does not necessarily mean there is reason for concern. It is usually a normal adaptation to weight training. But you do need to follow up on this, preferably with a sports medicine physician who is familiar with the effects of heavy weight training (and AAS use) on the heart, to determine whether there is pathology. |

i went to the doc today to see about his damn cold i have and he had chest x-ray done, he came back and told me it looked enlarged and he had compaired it to last years? he asked if i still trained and i told him yes. he then asked i had been taking any aas, i told him no i hadnt taken any since march. and then it was only 400mg of test for 10 weeks. he told me he was going to send me to have a Echo and to see a heart doctor he refs people to. so i dont know what the hell is going on, i was just told this by him and then sent home with a script for cold meds, lol. my BP has always been border line high, 150/90 avg. Well, one thing I can tell you that I've learned through all of this is;It is very important to monitor your Blood Pressure, and keep it at a managable level! I can't stress this enough! High Blood pressure probably has more to do with your enlarged heart than your training and possably even your ASS usage. My blood pressure has been high for years (similar to yours) and I ignored it. It was only because of my other heart condition that I actually did something about it. Increased blood pressure causes the left side of your heart to become enlarged. In worst case scenario it can even cause Aortic Dissection..Which is what killed John Ritter.(That's fairly uncommon but it is still a possability) I've learned that Cardio is also an important part of training...My cardiologist told me that increasing and doing regular Cardio not only lowers blood pressure but it strengthens the overall Cardovascular system and helps keep your heart from enlarging as much while training, and will ultimatly be better all around for your general physical well being...yada yada yada ![]() Anyway...I got off the subject a bit.. In all seriousness, You probably don't have that much too worry about, it will probably result in some lifestyle changes for you..Similar to my own. And you are definatly going to want to get a handle on that blood pressure..You're going to want to stop lifting untill you get your BP under control, and your going to have to start adding cardio 3x week to your training schedule. And it will probably mean an end to any future AAS usage (because these will exagerate your condition, making something that is fairly benign into something that can be a problem).. Now, All of this could be premature..you haven't even had an echo yet. Having a stress test will tell your cardiologist a lot more about your heart, and will bring you a great deal of comfort I'm sure. And through all of this you are going to learn a lot more about your heart that will bring you a better overall understanding and possably a realization about AAS and how you train.. I'll be praying for you, and wishing you the best! Phreezer |
