Well its been a very sad month for me, the gym I have been training at for the last 20 Years ( except for a few years ) has shut its doors and gone out of business. I started going to this gym back in 1988!!lol When I started there I was 140 lbs and had one hell of a nice Mullet! Now I am 286 lbs and have a shaved dome. I made the most significant gains of my life in that little weight room with its garage welded equipment. I left a few times over the years to try other gyms worked at a couple others as well but always found my way back in a short time. We had a great group of guys there some of them had started 10 –15 years before me and still showing up until the day the doors closed. We helped each other through the years achieve success both large and small. We watched each other get married and raise children some of us have been lucky enough to have our children grow old enough to train there with us. It wasn’t the most HARD CORE gym but we could play our music use some chalk and scream when we needed to. If someone had personnel best everyone would stop and watch and congratulate them. I have made friends that I will have for the rest of my life. The job that I have now I owe to that gym and the connections I made through it.
My dilemma now is there are only two other gyms in my area; one is the club I was kicked out of for being intimidating the other is a new Anytime Fitness franchise. I cant go back to the one gym and the Anytime is very small and has limited equipment, it doesn’t have any bench-presses it does have a smith and power cage so I can move a db bench and do it in there but if anyone else is using it, it could be a long wait. The group from the old gym has fractured some going to one club some to the other. I would just buy some equipment and train at home but do not have enough space. Now it has been three weeks since I last trained ( work has been crazy and just needed a break) but I need to get back into a gym this week!

That sucks bro, I go to a small family owned gym too and can't imagine going back to one of the bigger ones in my area, too many ass monkeys running around.

Maybe you shouldn't have been spotting the 80 year old with the 5lb dumbells yelling LIFT IT, COME ON GIVE ME ANOTHER ONE, LOOKING STRONG, GET IT UP NOWW!!!!!

Good luck finding a new home.

one of the best gyms I went to was a hole in the wall sweat box....but there were true hardcore lifters....hate the dating scene in these big name gyms.....and all those posers.... its hard to find true hardcore lifters that just want to do that....

SIgh.......
Started going to Anytime fitness yesterday got a decent workout in Talked to some of the members they said as long as I avoid peak hours I shouldnt have trouble getting equipment to use. The plus with going there is it is less then 5 minutes from my work and 24 hours so it will allow me to be more flexiable with my work outs when I am working 13 hour shifts 7 days a week for the summer.Bottom line is I WIL GET GOOD WORK OUTS AND WILL KEEP PROGRESSING REGARDLESS OF THE GYM I AM AT.

Not as cool as it sounds lol. The local hospital Administrator is majority owner or the gym and has all his cardiac rehab patients go there.Hell I was only 245 lbs when I was going lol.

Jas,
No eye candy so far but I have only been a few times. When I am looking for eye candy I drive to a collage town about 30 minutes away and take in the sights at the "IN" gym there lol. Its very distracting but my heart rate is def elevated!
As for the equipment at the old gym well the bank foreclosed so its in limbo for the time being.
