It's pretty jacked to actually go into the bar and arrest them. I bet the owner's of the bars love that. I think it's ok if the cops are watching people who leave, but going inside to arrest them is harsh.

Saw that on the news this morning. IMO, thats complete crap. If I were a bar owner, I would kick the cops out. Its private property so the cops shouldnt be in there unless they are called in.

That's what Griz was saying. I'm not totally sure on jurisdiction but it's TABC doing the stings and they are included with the liquor license as far as I know. You're right though, it's private property, how is this even possible? I'm right in the middle of this stuff and will be at one of the bars targeted. I'm curious to see what happens. I dont go out much and get hammered even less so no worries here.

My problem with this is that they are justifying this as a pre-emptive attack to crack down on drunk driving. But how do they know who in the bar is driving and who is not...they can't lump everyone in the same category.

These cops are just pissed they have to work the graveyard shift on a friday night instead of getting some pussy.

Ok..you drunks....a bar is considered public domain..therefore LE can arrest someone for public intoxication....the only place LE can not arrest for public intoxication is in their own house or back yard....

If you are in your front yard or porch...you are free game for public intoxication..you do not have expectation of privacy there......so take head all you drunks...

I think Karch is right. Several years ago, my dad and I were out front on the driveway and he had a beer in his hand. A cop drove by, stopped, backed up and told my dad to dump his beer out. My dad being who he is basically told the cop to go fuck himself and get off his driveway. 2 other cops eventually showed up and told my dad to finish it, dump it out, or else.....

Where do you live, Utah? That's insane. I drink a beer as I walk my dog through my neighborhood. I live near a hospital and there is also a few cops that live in the neighborhood as well, so there is frequently a cop car driving on the same streets where I walk my dog.

They see me and my dog and my beer, and they just nod. It's obvious that I'm old enough and that I'm not staggering drunk looking for trouble.

I would have told the cop the same thing if I were your dad.

I think Stella Artois is from Belgium. I would move to Amsterdam and drink Heineken and smoke pot and pay for hookers and never have to worry about getting arrested.

seems odd. The way people get drunk in bars is if the bartender keeps serving them. Are THEY held responsible, because they are not supposed to serve anyone who appears intoxicated?
p.s. I'm very anti-alcohol, so I couldnt care less about these drunks.

Just a continuation of legal and enformcement efforts to arrest people based on what they "might" do, not actual things they have done to persons or property. Next, maybe they'll arrest people for just walking into a bar. After all, there is an epidemic of intoxicated people "jump[ing] off of balconies" in Texas - so I don't know why you guys have a problem with this LOL! Also, there is a particular strong "moral" element evident in Texas enforcement actions.

Relatedly, notice how "dietary supplements" are being "demonized" not necessarily because they are "harmful" in and of themselves, but because users of supplements MAY use other more dangerous, illicit drugs (including OMG anabolic steroids)!

Dietary Supplements are "gateway" to illicit drug use

So, logically someone needs to "crackdown" on dietary supplements.
