Depends on what kind of doctor you are and your practice. I know some Chiros that make shit and some that make major loot.

Whatever the point of this thread is... I think they deserve every dime they earn. The amount of schooling, training, and responsibility they take into their hands cant have a price put on it. We've got people getting a second chance at life everyday, whereas 30-40 years ago, they may have just died a short, untimely death, and all everyone can do is bitch about it. sorry, not saying you are, just a pre-emtive shhhush. Hot topic around me because I live around a bunch of hardcore left wingers who dont believe in anything short of govt. intervention.

there is a doctor that goes to my gym, this is her first full year as a MD. and she works for a hospital clinic. she only makes 108,ooo a yr. that aint shit when you have all them school loans to pay back, and you work 80-hrs a wk. but she said if she can handle 1-2 more years she can start her own practice. they for sure have to work for their money, at least until they have a ongoing practice of their own for a few years................

Anyone know what kind of malpractice and other insurance rates doctors pay per specialty? This is something to keep in mind when you look at their income.

No kidding. Thats a major reason why so many doctors, OBs come to mind immediately, have left the profession.

I would think a GP probably averages $100-250k depending on area, whether they own the clinic, etc. Surgeons, particularly transplant and nuero, make assloads of cash. But as Admin said, their malpractice insurance probably also runs $200k+/year. Cosmetic surgeons are probably pretty high on the pay scale, as well.

I wonder if a search of the Bureau of Labor would have some online stats about average pay for different professions/specialties.

I dated a dentist and she made almost 400 thou/ per year, but her malpractice insurance was almost 150 thou. Then she had to pay all of her help out of that too. I would guess she brought home 150-200 thou after all was said and done

I know many docs and have many friends in med school right now. I almost went 3 years ago, but turned down my accptances as I "had a change of heart" so to speak.

I don't envy any of my friends....not one bit. And let me tell you something else: a great number of doctors coming out of med school these days have NO BUSINESS TREATING OTHERS!!!! The things I saw and experienced first hand made me sick and I became disgusted with the whole medical community.

Not if she jsut graduated from med school. She'd have at least 3 years (assuming she went into general practice) of residency, which pays maybe $45K/year if you are lucky. If she has completed her residency, $108K sounds about right.

I'm going to school right now to become a Sports Medicine Physician. Lot's of schooling and work, but it's not real bad. I want to land a job with a professional sports team as their team physician. I think the salaries for physicians at the professional level are around 250k, but can go up to a million.

The problem facing docs right now is, like everyone else said, insurance. Many doctors cannot afford their malpractice insurance premiums, so they are selling their practices to "third parties" who then pay the doctors insurance for them, but force the doctor to take a major paycut.

My g/f's dad was an anasthesiologist for years, but then became a general practitioner to save on malpractice insurance. He went from $300K/year to about $120K/year while living in Tampa, FL. Last year he got fed up and quit medicine altogether.....he's now a high school teacher.

No i never meant that they shouldn't get paid alot... Although,i really don't
i don't like doctors,hospitals,government... i really don't like anyone besides Grizzly but doctors do save lives. Most just want to operate and give drugs but that's where the money is i guess
