How much tip Cab driver?

Hi gents,

I'm going on vacation Monday. I'm having a cabbie pick me up at the airport to bring me to my hotel. What's the general rule for tipping? Is it a percentage or generally just a flat fee? Input would be appreciated.

I would actually judge the small talk of the person-- if it is fair, tip fair-- if it is like Jerry Seinfeld funny, tip accordingly. People should be judged on character-- so pay them for it (this doesn't apply to bodybuilding)!

I would tip them a few bucks, unless your loaded. Well, if you were loaded, you wouldnt be in a cab, more like a limo or stretched hummer.

Depends on how much the cab fare is but id give him a few bucks more than what the fare is.If the fare is 26 something just give him 30.Should be enough imo.

Nobody fucking tips me in my line of work. I get a paycheck just like that fucker...plus you dont really think he is gonna take you the quickest way he can do you ? If the guy packs your bag or something thats a little different. Tipping sucks.

This is a funny thread because I can't believe how cheap some people I know are. As far as bars or restaurants I always give at least 20% because i worked at clubs for years and appreciate how that shit works. Some of my friends trip think I am crazy for this shit but anyone who work in the industry knows better. As for a cabbie, shit drop him $5 - it ain't gonna kill you. Now if the people are asshole then that is a different story, but 99 percent of the time the servers go out of their way for you to get that good tip, plus the next time your are back expect a free round of drinks or something extra from the waitress. In the past I have gotten hundred dollar bills for getting people thru the door or a table in VIP, so how bad can it be to drop a hot waitress a couple of $$.

I take of people that take care of me. Restaurant servers get tipped depending on their service if their prompt and courteous I give at least 20% . Cab drivers don't have to make small talk but most of the ones I get haul ass mainly to get back to airport for another fare so I give them a five dollar tip.

I'll probably give him $5 for a $45 fare.

When i was about 17 or so i used to work for my uncle who owned a subway restaurant.We used to keep a tip jug out there.Most of the people who worked there remembered the people who tipped well and made sure to take care of them by making sure they got the freshest bread, some extra meat,faster service,etc.I dont know about cabbies but if you go to a restaurant or a bar regularly you get more bang for your buck by tipping the waitress or bartender well.You take care of people,they take care of you.

Well said Desibaba, amazing how far slipping a few bucks here and there to people that serve the public will get you preferential treatment over those that don't . Don't waitresses only make a couple of bucks an hour and rely on tips as part of their income.
