| | Re: Opinions / Thoughts well what would someone expect? when you take a bunch of thugs and put money in their pocket, they're just gonna be rich thugs and spend all their money. Doesn't really surprise me much. The other day during the championship, they were talking about the players on the Memphis team from the last time they won the championship or went to the final four or something. But like 5 had been killed in violent crimes. 4 were in jail. 6 were deadbeats and only 2 or 3 were actually doing anything with their lives. |

So now we look at the ones who have the world by the balls and where do they end up? In the same place.

| | Re: Opinions / Thoughts in my opinion this is pure the result of a lack of intelligence and common sense ... it never seizes to amaze me how instead of making more money with the money you have, people seem to burn it all away ... do some of these individuals not look at the balances in their checking accounts...
and i totally hear role model on this one - i am so sick of hearing about this race card bullshit ... i know this is kindve off topic but Jesse Jackson is probably the most contradicting peace of shit out there .... fighting for racial justice my ass - that greedy - selfish - son of bitch has done more to hurt his cause then help it ... hes just doing all this for his own reasons ...
i honestly think the race card needs a little rest ... do some people have better opportunities than others? of course ... but that also doesnt mean its impossible for people at the bottom to make it to the top - im sick of people blaming their lack of hard work, determination, ambition, and inability to do meet the goals and standards they set for them selves - on the color of their skin, and more so on other people ... you are where are you becasue of your actions -

Its like a ghost town, no movement anywhere till about 12 noon. The reason why is what you stated above "lack of hard work, determination, ambition, and inability to do meet the goals and standards of life to be successful."

| | Re: Opinions / Thoughts shoot, i live in the mississippi delta right now and let me tell you, i see the laziest people on earth. uneducated too. i'd never known anyone who couldn't read or write till i came here and there are a ton of people who can't do either. but they sure do like to bitch about how being black is so hard and how white people have been holding them back. I actually heard of a mom who took her 12 year old daughter to the free clinic complaining that she couldn't get pregnant. She wanted her 12 year old daughter to get pregnant so she could get more wellfare money! how ridiculous is that? Honestly i'm all for social darwinism, survival of the fittest. Let the stupid people die out and stop producing and hopefully it'll help human beings as a species lol |

| | Re: Opinions / Thoughts race, like religion, is a very contentious issue. The emotions on every side run deep and can turn to rightous indignation at any turn...at which point any meaningful, objective discussion ends. I am a white guy raised in poor inner city South Carolina...in many ways I had more in common with the black kids in my 'hood than any other demographic. I also agree with the sentiments expressed above...I could go on ande on about this. White people in my experience hunger for a meaningful dialogue on race, but when we try we just get accused of racism. I imagine many of feel like German folks...some of "our" people did some evil shit to some of "theirs" so we should feel guilty and give them whatever they want. I realize that is a gross simplification, but damn it im tired of getting blamed for other peoples bullshit. |

| | Re: Opinions / Thoughts Thoughts are, garnish their salaries or set up a trust before they blow all their money! I work with doctors and many of them have their salaries garnished by a court order to pay child support, why not do it for people who make a lot more money then people who save lives. I forgot throwing a ball is more important then saving lives these days! |

| | Re: Opinions / Thoughts Also, I think this thread is purposefully incendiary. Not that I disagree, but I think the original data is written in such a manner as to lead the reader to a predetermined conclusion.
I would bet that the majority of professional athletes, irregardless of color, have "skeletons in the closet." Whenever a male human being has hundreds or thousands of good looking women throwing themselves at him, "no stings attached(until I purposefully get pregnant)," he will take advantage of the situation. Look at Brian Urlacher... |

| | Re: Opinions / Thoughts Grizz, I think the thread may have been purposefully provocative...but the folks who take offense will determine if it is incindiary or not by their responses...which I havent seen.
And there is a social/cultural divide in this country (and many other countries) between the races, we see it it many areas but pro athletes lives are much more public lives and people (for some odd damn reason) seem to care more about what they do. I still dont get the "fan" mindset...to me it reeks of hero worship and I dont have time for it. But hey, to each his own, right?
Which brings me to the point I wanted to make...to deny there are differences in the races is just plain ignorant. Maybe the differences are cultural, genetic, whatever...but we are different. Does that mean one race is inferior? Certainly not...judgement calls about heirarchy between the races reflects the observers innate insecurities or cultural mores. But that does not mean that differences dont exist. Knowing this, I know that there are things that me and my black/hispanic/asian friends are never going to see the same way. That does not mean that if they need me I wont be there...because I will. That does not mean that I dont resent some of their prejudices and opinions..... because i do. Or that I dont think some of the things they find value in are idiotic and trite ....because i do. But also I value the discourse, and each of them are interesting (to me) for one reason or another. Knowing there are differences between us ALSO allows me to know that there is nothing PERSONAL in those differences...on some level (in most cases) its like the differences are not something we engineereed in order to be different, but rather a result of an entire constellation of events that have occurred thru all of recorded history. So its no ones "fault", the fact that we can diiscuss it at all means that we are finally making progress IMHO. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
