what's up MW. i just had my 2nd meniscus surgery on my right knee. i can't have another cartilege tear in that knee, becasue well...they took the whole medial miniscus out the 2nd time. they'll either snip the tear out or repair it, if it's repairable. repaired tears often reoccur. hell my 1st tear was snipped out and i ended up tearing what was left, 8 years later. the surgery is not invasive at all: 2 holes on either side of the knee, one for the scissor tool, and one for the scope. it normally takes less than a week to get back on your feet. all in all a snap. |

The doc says they will put a piece of a cadaver in his knee because he will get better use of it that way. The doc also said that this is a very hard thing to tear, but my friend tore it playing around with a friend a few years ago. He was wrestling with this guy and he twisted it pretty bad. I told him to check out that NST treatment on Mercola.com before getting surgery but i don't know if his insurance will cover it. I'm just thinking that he will get the surgery and it won't help and then he will need more and more and now i hear there is also a chance of getting a desease like HIV. They say the chance is low but they are covered if anything happens so what do they care. All doctors want to do is prescribe medication and surgery for everything. I understand that's how they get payed but it sucks to see so many people on drugs who don't need them if they just get off their asses, workout, and eat right..... By the way,i'm not pissed while writting this,i just wanted to express myself...and i'm bored

I tore my lateral meniscus playing hockey in 1998. I continued to play on it for 3 months (sometimes in severe pain). The surgery was flawless and I have no mobility or other problems. Sometimes my knee will feel tired, but thats about it. I dont do any running, jumping or heavy pounding. Overall, as long as the surgeon is good, then your friend shouldnt have any problems. |

i had part of my left medial meniscus removed and part sutured as well as a lateral patellar release while the doc was in there. took me a while to recover from it because of the patellar release, but i haven't had any prob's with it in 4 years now. had it done in 1997.
