True Friends???

What happened to true friends? I just turned 22 and I realized I have no true friends nor do I think I ever did. My friends are losers! All they do is sit around and drink beer and smoke weed. Out of the click from high school we were the jocks and ruled the school now I am the only one doing something positive with my life. I am holding down a good full time job with a promising future and I go to school full time. They all dropped out of college and work dead end jobs. I don’t hang out with them that much because I can’t stand the negativity and uselessness of them. Well basically the point of this rambling is I feel alone because I have no like minded friends they all criticize me for being a “muscle head” and all I do is work out. I know it is just because they are jealous but it gets old. In this months issue of FLEX Arnold wrote an article about balance and not letting bodybuilding control your life but with friends like I have its hard to hang with people with no ambitions or goals. So I sit home alone just about every night with some girls stopping by but they are another story. It sucks being alone but how do you go about making friends with guys with out seaming gay. When I go to class I always end up in groups with girls, which is a good thing. So with out even thinking I walk over and sit down next to the hot blonde instead of the guys in the back of the class. Most of the time the girls are a waste of time but fun to flirt with. I just wish I had a friend that would have my back no matter what it makes you think of gangs or even joining the army now they have loyalty and they would die for each other if the had to. There is no point to this I just needed to vent so thanks for listening.

I'm the same age as you and I agree, it sucks to see your friends waste their lives away. I have a few like that, and it seems like I distance myself from them more and more everyday. I just don't want to be associated with those kind of people for the rest of my life.

It seems to me that u are be friending them..Just because they are on a different path than you does not make them any different. Some people take longer than others to become more responsible..U should try and help them rather than critisize them. Just my take..I could be wrong.

Remember when the dorks in the school that you guys "ruled" told you about what big losers you were because all you did was play football, drink beer and chase tail? Looks like they were right in most of the cases. It's an age old tale.

When I say ruled I don't mean it in a bad way! We were good guys for the most part always helped other people never put people down unless they were picking on other people then we would stand up for the little guy. by ruled I mean in the school sence by not having to show up for class on time, able to leave campus for lunch, and never needing a hall pass. We didn't abuse things but if we got in minor trouble our football coach was the princpal so most of the time it went away. We were not the cocky ashole jocks it sounded like. By the way I am not critizing my friends I was only venting even though I am distanceing myself from them they are my friends and I am there for them NO MATTER WHAT!!!!

I moved around alot as a kid so I never really got the opportunity to develop "life-long" friendships. Now my little brother is my best friend. I hang out with him several times a week. We just went running a little while ago. Other than him, and my other little bro, I only have 1 real friend. I trust those people completely though. I guess I'm lucky to have that.

It is like most of the popular people that you think will do great in life turn out to be losers. I feel your pain. I have friend (the only freind from high school I still talk to) that is an alcoholic and thus gets in a lot trouble. He spends all his money throwing parties ($500-600 a pop) and always complains about not having money and going anywhere in life.

I can dig. Sorry for the wrong assumption. I don't what to tell you in regard to this since I'm an anti-social bastard. Pretty much all of my friends are just like yours, so I don't really hang out with them all that much. I can't be spending money on beer at bars all the time. Now beer in my house, well, that's another story entirely.

If you can count more TRUE friends than fingers on one hand then you are VERY lucky. Even then True friends will wander off as life goes on but mostly they will come back because of the BOND you guys have. It's always a great time remembering the fun times you had together and talking about the girls you guys banged...cLeRks

I have lots of good friends, but the only "true" friends I have are family. I've wondered if that's my fault or the fault of my other friends, but there is something about blood that just can't be seperated.

My best friend is my brother. There are times I want to kill him, and vice-versa, I'm sure, but beyond my wife, and brother, there is no one I'd consider a "true friend." Even the next tier of friends I have in terms of loyaly are cousins, brother-in laws, etc - all still family.

I do have a great core of friends from strength training. The guys I train with will be there for you when you have a need (and that has even extended to friends from here - mods that support each other when in need, etc.) - But there is still something special about family.

i feel fortunate b/c i have several good friends that would help me out at any time.
As for finding friends, i would try getting in a intramural sports league. Flag football, softball, bball etc. Remember, Hockey isnt a sport
