From what I understand, its a geographical/cultural thing. Americans ask what you can bench, and Euros/Scandanavians ask what you can squat or DL.

I like to ask what a guy can rep out with 225, I guess because that is what I'm focused on right now. |

OK, I don't know about other high schools, but the district in Texas I was in, during the off football season, we would weight train. Before the training of weights, they would test us in 4 or 5 "stations". They would test us in bench press (of course), bench incline, back, squats and I think dead lifts, there might of been more but I dont remember. After we would test out, they would give us our work out routine, after about 4 or 6 weeks, we would test again. They would even give out shirts if u benched a certain weight. As we talked to other guys during their off season training, they said it was pretty much the same thing. I don't train like that anymore, I don't even know how much I can bench press, plus I do dump bell bench presses instead of using the bar. If other schools were like that, I guess thats why so many people say, "how much u bench?" I tell them, dont know, i dont ever max out. Maybe others can comment on their high school weight training.

yeah we had something similar for my h.s. football team. they would periodically test how mcuh we could rep at a certain weight, i think it was 185lbs. those of us who could max out higher than 250 you got a t-shirt that said "iron shop" on the back.
