Default Who are my sportbike ridin bros out there?

Fellas,

I am lookin into a Yamaha R6 2002, but dont know how they compare to the suzukis and hondas. I am not gettin any bigger than 600 CCs in fear of killing myself on the damn thing. But anyone out there with input would great!

Also, I am curious to know if anyone has ever bought a bike online at cycletrader.com ? I was lookin around on that site and saw a few bikes and I think the first guy i dealt with was a scammer. Someone fill me in. Peace!

I'd buy a gixxer 1000. You can die plenty quick on a 600....

you can die on any bike just as easy. but the R6 is one of the fastest in the 600 class and can easily be compared to some 1000's. its all what you want everyone and there mom has a Gsxr because they are plug and play you just buy and ride. if you want a great bike for the ride and with lots of class buy a European bike triumph, ducati,Guzzi, they are more expencive and usually have alot more maitnence cost. if you just want to go fast in a straight line buy a hybusa of zx12. if you want to have a bike that looks good just to get around on, look into a naked bike they are moving up in popularity really fast and usualy cheaper than crouch rockets. The r6 is good and looks nice if you can i would go out and try to ride some of these bike before you buy them comfort is always a factor and how you can handle it, go to some local dealers and find some to sit on and even test drive .
later.

AB,

I ride a gxxr1000, and I don't feel a bigger bike is NECESSARILY more dangerous. However, that thing will go warp speed in the blink of an eye, so some discretion is advised when riding. As PDP said, you CAN die plenty quick on a 600. Any Japanese sportbike is wickedly fast.

If you can test ride some that would be great. It has been my experience that it is difficult to find a dealer that is willing to do that (especially with sportbikes).

I think buying ANY bike used is a scary proposition. Cycletrader is probably no worse than the newspaper classifieds. If you choose the used route, try to find an individual(not some small time dealer) that is an adult. Plenty of "older" guys buy sportsbikes on a whim, then two years later they decide that putting 500 miles a year on the thing is not cost effective.

As far as which brand, I don't think will go wrong with ANY of the big 4.

Good luck.

Do you ride now? If not, you might want to consider a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course for some training. I know it sounds boring, but do it. If you ride a bike the way you drive a car, you WILL get killed or maimed.

That being said, there are few things sweeter than getting on the freeway and cracking the throttle open and 0-100 in about six seconds. Too cool!

Thanks for the info bro,

I took the class and have my license. I might look into the advanced course they offer down here just to further my confidence. I have ridden dirtbikes my whole life and I have ridden around on my buddy's CBR for quite a while. I am not really inexperienced, its just that so many people have told me to stay away from anything bigger than a 600 for a first sportbike. Thanks again

peace

I always loved my CBR 600's always top rated year in year out. Now I'm partial to Ducati, the 750SS is mean and sounds killer. Lot more $$$ in upkeep though! HOw bout the new Ninja fast and light.

i manage a honda kawasaki shop about 30minutes west of washington dc. anyhow, like someone said, stick with the big 4 and you cant go wrong. ive personally always been honda loyal. i was service manager for a long time, hondas rarely have updates or recalls, and traditionally are more service friendly. my bike of choice currently is a vtr1000. comfy, broad powerband, putting out about as much hp as the current 600 super sports (100)
as was mentioned, climb on every bike on the market. the current crop of sport bikes are fuckall in the comfort department. especially if your over 5'8. there all fast, nobody i know can outride their bikes. the rider determines who wins. and ya i just got the new zx10, its insane. rolling 2nd gear wheelies. lightly clutch 3rd gear wheelies.
oh btw, u might want to check into insurance. it can be silly.
good luck

I have a gixxer 750, I'll post a pic later today. I'm getting ready to put it up for sale for 55hundred.
I wouldn't have anything but a 750 or 1000, from suz, yama, hon, or kaw. I lov'em, and the high pitched tone as you climb the upper RPM's from an inline 4 motor screams with an aftermarket pipe, and kicks ass!!

Hey Bro - Suzuki's are the way to go - I wouldn't even look at a honda or yamaha...Suzuki is the shiznit - Plus Suzukis are the heaviest out there so you really feel the bike....I rode a yamaha for the first time and it was light as shit compared to my suzuki, felt like it wasn't even there...same with hondas...real light and flimsy feeling compared to a suzuki...I have a Gixxer 6, 2003, first bike, I love it...also people are right, the only difference b/t a 600 and a 1000 is that if you get the 1000 you won't have to waste any money getting one when you get tired of the 600 and buy a bigger bike....You WILL want a bigger bike. Have fun with it and be safe, as long as your safe, cc's don't mean shit.

p.s. - IF you want a REAL bike - go get a Suzuki Hyabusa and be ever riders envy.

Progressive always has decent prices - as long as you don't have too much BS on your record and being over 25 helps too...

Easy - I live in DC, G-Town...where is your shop at?

i like suzuki. However, i think the katanas are more comfy than the gixxers. I have had two katanas and now own a kaw. ninja zx 6. It is awesome. For insurance purposes i would stay at 600 or 750 cc's. My 600 is faster than the 750 katana and is very comfortable. Safety doesnt have anything to do with it. The 600's can run close to 170mph so you are still kinda at risk
