For you HARLEY guys.Guess what i dealt with today

I was doing my typical sunday twisty riding and guess what me and my friend found on our favorite curvy road.
Harley rider, no gear, apparently highsided on his harley sportster...

My only theory is that he held the rear brake in the turn and let go and highsided...

He was wearing one of those " skull cap " helmets.

Just a message to people who wear these things and think they have " protection " ... I don't think that a decoration can provide protection to your skull...
Please - if you know anyone who rides without proper gear, ask them to get a real helmet and link them to this site. This is real life, I don't know if this guy will make it. I got the phone # from one of his friends and I will call to find out how he's doing.. I will post here to update you guys on his status... I don't know him, but I hope he makes it. His skull was badly damaged, he was basically scalped.. I saw more blood from his head than I have ever seen ... he had 4 seperate gashes in his skull with the skin totally seperated form his head... really really bad....

Take a look at the last pic.Thats the RABBI style not DOT approved helmet many cruiser guys love and see what shape its in.I just found out this man has a wife and two kids who depend on him.Think about your loved ones and gear up when you ride your bikes.

oh I hate that

non snell rated helmets are completely worthless! I have come off my bike at ungodly speeds (135mph is the standing record) and walked away each and every time. Partially due to the fact that on tracks there are no cars or walls to hit, but also because I wear quality gear. And good gear doesn't have to be expensive or ugly. Still.... I'd rather drop $400 on a good helmet than be dead.

Well the man is in ICU last time i checked.His family is there waiting impatiently.I hope things work for him but at this point in time it doesnt look good because he has a lot of trauma to the head.As some of you know i ride a hayabusa in the 100 degree south florida heat in full leathers.I hope he makes it.I feel bad for his kids and wife.The paramedics told my friend had we arrived a few minutes later and not given him cpr he would have been dead.It was one of the worst things i have had to deal with in my life.He was a dumbass to do this but i hope he makes it because i certainly dont want his wife n kids to suffer

I almost lost my brother no more than a month ago to a gsx600. My brother was going 60+ with no leather on no gloves. Just a REAL helmet. .that saved his life.

He was in the burn unit for around 2 weeks. Hes lucky hes alive.

Ive never been on a bike, never will get on a bike.

ALWAYS wear full gear. You never know what's going to happen and you want to keep your skin. My friends and I always wear full gear. Couple years ago my buddy put down his ZX6 while going pretty fast so he slid for quite a while on his back. His helmet and leather jacket were all scuffed up pretty badly, but he walked away with no injuries. Ride safe.

I'm a Harley rider and really only wear a helmet in states that require it. I don't hotrod or do curves bro.. we just cruise. I know that I should wear one but just never do. I do own a DOT helmet but rode for years with one of those brain buckets.The only reason people wear the brain buckets is to please the states law. This guy wouldn't even have had a helmet on if he was in a state that allows you to choose... yes I know we should wear them but it is my choice...

Know why I'm not worried? I ride a cruiser at cruising speeds, my top ever being something like 93mph for 4 seconds. I don't do "twisties". I don't even like riding around people. I ride in country where there's no one and I don't do stupid shit. Me? I ain't worried.

Come on Grizz, a little worry will keep you more attentive and safe. What would OLM and Meso be without you? There seem to be a lot of motorcycle deaths in my area with 90% of them caused by a vehicle operator not seeing the motorcyclist and then pulling out in front of them.

I must confess that I am a harley rider that rarely wears a helmet. Yes, I am mature, ride responsibly and try to be as attentive as I can. However, it only takes a small lapse in your attention coupled with that of a car driver to cause your life to change or end.

I am pro-choice for helmet use, but cringe when someone says "It won't happen to me" or "I ain't worried".

One more thing.....this thread should be "For you MOTORCYCLE guys. I see a large number of young sport bike riders wearing their nice armored leather jacket with their $600 helmet either strapped to the back or hanging around their arm. Even funnier....sport riders with a one-piece full leathers, race boots and gloves with no helmet?

And be wary of 75 yr old's making lefts in front of you....grrrrrr.

Had an old biddie turn right in front of me, right on my street as I was headin out for a ride.
Locked up the front tire and dropped like a rock.
Now I'm a bit paranoid with cars making turns in front of me.
