I wonder this too. Since starting TRT, my hair has thinned a little. I have been on gel (am switching to shots) and my DHT was 2X over range. But I'm also taking DHEA 25 mg bid. I am using all the topicals and won't touch finasteride. I'd rather feel well and save for transplants!! |

What topicals do you use? and how well do you think it/they are working? Quote:

I had the same problem with the gels. Switched to shots and my hair stopped thinning (and even grew back)! Mac |

my gut instinct is that dhea wont directly lead to hairloss in chaps as it doesnt convert to dht directly- it can convert to testosterone, or more likely e2, but id be very suprissed if on 25mg or even 50mg if id loose more hair- as im doing the pills not hte cream of dhea, and so its unlikely my t has increased all that much since taking dhea. saying that though, dhea may lead to hairloss through other channels, like e2 as we said. but im on pretty good e2 managagment,. im taking 0.25mg of arimidex every 3rd day and one tab of phils brand of dim and one tab of plymouths dim with resvertatol every day- so my e2 should be sorted |

Unorganized list is below. You can buy the presentation and watch/listen to it: It is one year or so old, so it is rather new. And as usual, diferent pathways are infuenced by different supplement. The test reveal which pathways are in need of help and which pathways are doing ok. Look at attchment here, it shows pathways. http://forum.mesomorphosis.com/570645-post6.html ================================================== ==================== ----------------------------------------------------------- NutrEval discussed EW04 - NUTRITIONAL EVALUATION: Understanding Your Patient's Supplement Needs A4M :: Conference Library A4M :: Conference Library Conference: A4M Las Vegas 2006 Speaker: Patrick Hanaway, MD December 7, 2006 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Estroessence discussed: GS02m - Estrogen Metabolism: Modifying Risk in Clinical Practice Conference: A4M Orlando 2006 Speaker: Patrick Hanaway MD Length: 31m 07s - 66 Slides April 9, 2006 5:00 pm - 5:40 pm -------------------------------------------------- ================================================== ==================== flaxseed (ligans not oil) omega-3 soy isoflavones (specially in equal producers of 2-OHE and 16-OHE) I3C (sounds as if I3C is to be used and let the body produce a DIM from it, direct DIM is less sure way, but not to be excluded) DIM rosemary, turmeric, kudzu (anti inflamatory) strenous exercise weight loss (I am guessing more like a fat loss) (SAMe & Mg magnesium) also low folate or high Homocystine (Hcy?) decrease COMT (Folate, B12, B6, riboflavone) NAC N-acetil-cystine, L-glutamine, glycine, Mg, (methionine or SAMe) (alpha lipoic acid, silymarin=Milk Thisle, ginko biloba, whey protein) Brassica diet Allium diet (garlic, onions) I3C-400mg qD Fish Oils 2gm EPA/DHA BID Resveratrol -150mg qD Green Tea extract (EGGCG) 125-250mg qD latter witholded Alpha-Lipoic acid 300mg BID B-50 Supplement with B6, B12, & Folate Magnesium Glycinate 200mg BID Emphasize cruciferous vegetables in diet Last edited by JanSz; 12-08-2007 at 11:30 AM. |

To date they didn't work so great, but bear in mind my DHT doubled in the course of 1 month. |

| That is just great to hear. I switched to shots a month ago. I know DHT isn't "bad" for you - with the possible exception of hairloss - but I hope mine gets in range. I was at the high end of range pre TRT (with low T!!!)

Since I've started TRT (which included DHEA and pregnenolone), I've notice some changes in my hair characteristics, too. I was trimming some hair on my arms, made an error, and wound up shaving it all off because I couldn't get it even. It took FOREVER to grow back and it came in very sparsely; usually it grows like a weed and thinck (why I trim it to begin with). Literally, it took 3 months for it to come back to -mostly- normal. |

I suspect and have posted on this numerous times that bad estrogen metabolites are probably at play when it comes to hairloss. I also suspect that very low DHT, or very high DHT will also cause hairloss. Low DHEA would be suspect for hairloss as well. The only way high DHEA would cause hairloss would be in an event when it is coupled with high T and high DHT Coincidentally, DHT is protective against excessive estrogen. Progesterone is protective against excessive DHT Pregnenolone is used to make both progesterone and DHEA |

JJB, my hair loss is around the crown, so I guess it could be deemed MPB. However, the character of my hair has changed (it used to be coarser). As mentioned, I believe the DHEA helped some -- I now take 50 mgs, time-released. I also use Minoxodil. It's largely preemptive -- overall, I'm blessed with a good head of hair for my age. Good luck.
