Avodart (dutasteride) will lower DHT significantly.

I have had excellent results using the following products:

finasteride 1.5mg every other day
nizoral 2% shampoo 3x per week
minoxidil 5% with (retin a) every night
spironolactone 5% lotion every night

This may seem extreme but this has really worked for me. You would never look at me now and think I was losing my hair at one time.

I'm just not in favor of finasteride use. It causes ED in many more men than the manufacturer publishes, by my experience, and some of them simply never recover. I'd stay away from it, in favor of the topicals.

ED as in erectile dysfunction?

Holy crap! Thanks for letting me know, I was considering ordering some.

I've been using finasteride for over a year, 3-4 x per week. I haven't experienced any sides at all, but everyone is different.

MikeD,
You say that people would never have known that you were losing your hair. This seems to be saying that you aren't thinning at all. If this is true, How do you apply lotion onto your scalp? I have considered ordering some lotion, but really don't know you to properly use it.

At one time I was thinning. People I know were making comments basically to bust my nuts. But now I am no longer thinning and have more hair. Remember though everyone is different. And I also began using the products early, I wasn't thinning for very long. The lotion is easy to apply, just add small drops to your fingertips and rub it into your scalp until it is gone.

hmmm, now I'm more confused than ever. My dermatologist has me using only Nizoral 2% daily to counter the DHT. Do you think that I should be taking any other drugs to counter it?

Mike

MikeD,

I got some minoxidil with retin-a and the spironolactone cream. Geez, that spironolactone cream stinks bad!
I'm not sure I can continue to use it.

I've been using Finasteride and recently Avodart for nearly 3 years with no major sides and excellent results. I also use Xandrox 15 and Dr. Mitchell's 2% Nizoral & 3% Salacylic Acid shampoo. www.xandrox.com

Thats why you apply it at night before bed. Then wash your hair when you get up . It does stink but its not that bad, maybe your applying to much.

nizoral 2% is a great product in itself. I have had terrific results with just nizoral using it as my everyday shampoo. nizoral needs time to make its effects work. You may not notice a difference in until you have used it everyday for at least one or two months. I've been using it everyday in the shower since september and am very happy with my results. good luck, give it time.

oh and by the way. I take a multivitiman everyday. Sounds stupid but when I stop taking it for a couple days I notice more hair falling out. Take your vitamins
