Default Here is one.

For the guys that break out in hot flashes and sweat or feel hot. My Dr. told me to get some Black Coshosh. Now the dam stuff works I don't sweat all day and don't wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat anymore. I am sleeping much better. The thing that gets me is it says on the bottle for women's midife years

Some of the hot flashes from TRT occur from a reduction in estrogen activity. Hot flashes are a withdrawal symptom from estrogen.

Black Cohosh is an herbal remedy which has estrogenic activity (though the evidence is not fully clear or is contradictory).

It is usually not used for long periods of time.

Adverse effects include: headaches, gastric compliants, fatigue, weight gain, acute hepatitis (in at least one case requiring a liver transplant), possible increased risk of estrogen-sensitive cancers, etc.

I just started doing a search on this and now feel it may not be worth taking.

If anything I need a reduction in estrogen activity have had this problem from Day one doing TRT 22 yrs. This is the first time I don't feel hot and not sweating all day. So maybe if I do a liver check with my tests I would be good. I need to do .5 mgs. of Arimidex a day to keep E2 down.

Very interesting... LONG before I ever started TRT or even thought about my hormones I used to sweat so much I would wake up and wonder if I wet my damn bed... was soooo annoying... I could get a hot flash while watching TV that would be so unreal my wife would have to move away from me. I had labs drawn at that time (but no hormones) and all was normal so my Dr couldn't figure what was going on...

I used to travel to China and the Far East on business so I even looked into TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine) they told me I had the "Vapors" :-) so everytime I had the flashes and sweats my wife and I would laugh and say "I had the vapors again" :-) ...they eventually went away and became just a memory and a long standing joke

Now jump forward about 14 years and I am on TRT and sometimes get very mild flashes and sweats but NOTHING like I used to...

Black cohosh doesn't seem to have the full effects of estradiol. For example, it doesn't seem to have an effect on osteoporosis. It may still be useful for intermittent use for problems such as hot flashes, so long as it does not contribute to estrogen's adverse effects.

It sure feels good to have my hair dry so I am going to stay on this and see what my liver is doing in 5 weeks.

Black cohosh has a long history of safe use. The case of liver failure that may be attributed to it is one case out of millions of people using it, odds about as good as tap water.
Black cohosh does bind to estrogen receptors with less activity than estrogen so there is potential for use with guys having hot flahes or possibly men with elevated estrogens. The theory being that Black cohosh is competetive with estrogen but less active. The research has not been done in men so I would be interested to hear about anyone out there who is using it successfully.
