at home cholesterol test( HELP)

I saw a home blood test available on home shopping for about $175. you prick your finger and insert a chip/card into a small handheld device. it gives your totalclesterol,hdl,and tryglycerides. no ldl for some reson. they say it was approved by some agency or something. anyone ever heard of this test?

How much did the cards cost? Probably a lot. You can buy a blood glucose meter for $40 or $50, but fifty test strips cost at least as much as the meter.

Unless your cholesterol level is morbidly high, why would you want to be testing it all the time?

I don't know if they have improved the accuracy, but fingerstick tests were supposed to be pretty inaccurate.

Not only that any food you eat will give you diffrent readings.

Without the LDL reading how will you figure out the ratio of HDL to LDL?

The Lipid Profile is actually quite stable. That is why it does not good to check it more often than every couple of months, even with addition of (or dosage changes to) ststin drugs.
