I`ve repeated this experiment many times and am convinced of its validity, althought the results arent always the same, it is often so. Namely that drinking too much increases libido the next morning. Apparently this isnt true in all people but I have talked to some guys who confirm the effect. The majority say that they just feel like crap the next day. Conventional wisdom says that drinking decreases Testosterone and several studies also confirm this. I have read one study that found that alcohol consumption increases cortisol production both while drinking and for a period of time after in SOME, a few, individulas. The study theorized that this might in oart explain why some individuals become addicted to alcohol and some dont. I have noticed that Medrol has a potentiating effect on T injections. Wondring if anyone else has noticed the horney hangover effect or might have a theory as to why this is so. |

I haven't had a hangover in a long time, but I do remember being extremely horny when I would wake hung over. I had completely forgotten that until I read your post. |

| I have never taken medrol, so I don't know. I take a short course of prednisone from time to time. The first day I feel really energized and elated - almost manic. But I don't think I have noticed an increase in libido. In fact, as I remember, it shrinks my package almost to nothing. That lasts until a couple of days after I stop the prednisone.

BTW my RN friends tell me that the energized and elated effect is quite common and is much more pronounced if taken IM. There are countless biochemicals and neural networks involved in libido. My theory might be a gross over simplification or not. A carefully designed study with many cortisol tests would reveal the story but that is unlikely. Just wondering. What about the rest of you people ? Ever get drunk and notice anything libidowise the next morning ? Last edited by zkt; 06-28-2008 at 08:33 PM. |

I too niotice this effect repeatedly if I have even a few drinks the night before. My theory was that the alcohol was affecting estrogen levels in some manner. And we all now how important a role estrogen plays in libido and sexual aggression. I was told recently though by my Dr. that it MAY actually be a result of withdrawals from the alcohol causing an increase in stress and cortisol levels. Interestingly, the body goes through short withraswals even after one night of drinking.

Chronic drinkers aften have high E2 levels and low T. Maybe the alcohol increases aromatization rather than depress T production directly. Your Dr.`s theory seems to go along with the study I mentioned altho they found that cortisol does not increase in the majority of subjects. A lot more reading is in order if one wants to make any sense out of this. Any more input out there ? Where are all the party animals on this ? |

I had this same effect always. Actually yesterday morning. I had a party with my girlfriend and drank quite some beer, next morning i was horny as .... and had a harder erection. My Estradiol E2 is low to begin with, so this must have driven it up by quite some. Thats my theory. |

Another vote for the low estrogen theory. It definitely makes sense. I used to drink beer and I was almost always horney. Have no idea what E2 was running. Assume T was nomal to high normal but I wasnt into medical stuff back then. Can either of you confirm a relationship between glucocorticids and libido ? I remember now that the study contended that a possible explaination for the fact that some people become addicted to alcohol and some dont might be that they were, in effect, self-medicating and correcting a cortisol deficiency. In essence adrenal fatigue. This makes sense too. |

I have experienced this many, many times. In fact, every time I really overindulge, I wake up feeling better sexually than I can possibly otherwise. I have absolutely no idea the reason but I would love someone to explain this to me. It has happened when my T and E2 levels were both high and low. Seems to be no correlation there. |

Very damn interesting. Maybe this is a common effect. Your input inda puts a nail in the coffin of the low E2 theory. What were/do your cortisol levels run ? Maybe there is some than meets the eye in that old expression " beer drinkers make better lovers" . I had to go on testosterone and hcg to keep my libido up after quitting beer drinking. But to maintain objectivity have to say that there were a lot of other changes that came along at the same time in my life. Keep the input coming. Give me some corraborating evidence for something. If nothing else it will maybe provide a clue as to where to start researching the literature. Another possibility is that the HPTA is influenced to increase LH. Since it is normally released in pulses perhaps the morning pulse is larger. A morning LH pulse does seem to be responsible for morning wood. What about the secondary hypogonadism people pre-trt ? What is your experience ? Last edited by zkt; 06-29-2008 at 09:41 PM. |

I have asked my HRT provider many times about this. Her answer was something about reduced inhibitions and being relaxed. Perhaps, but I am not convinced. I think it has more physical associations. My last cortisol test (saliva) was: 12.8 ng/dl (morning) 3.7-9.5 1.8 (noon ) 1.2-3.0 3.1 (evening) 0.6-1.9 .8 (night) 0.4-1.0 It seems the more I abuse my body, the better it responds in this department. NO idea. My T has ranged from 235-1,300. I normally run about 1,100. My E2 has gone from 23-111 |

I've also experienced this effect. I would presume that the effects of the alcohol impart some type of influence on the nervous system (sympathetic or parasympathetic). Which in turn could signal neurotransmitters to behave in a certain manner. Norepinephrine/epinephrine could be triggered in such a way to want sex. Plus, there could be concurrent release of dopamine contributing. This is a good topic. I'm sure many have also experienced drinking on a wknd night, and maybe felt more horny than if they had not consumed. Personally I've had this happen along with "horny hangover". |
