I understand that nearly everyone here is against the use of Finasteride. So, since everyone so highly informed, how long is the usual to experience the side effects? I know that some take "years" to experience side effects. I just don't buy that. That sounds more like AGING to me.

I took it for about 6 years with no sides at all. From what i've read it seems like its different for everyone. I've read just as many positives about Fin as I've read negatives. For me, it was a positive, as far as hairloss goes. I switced to avodart around 4 months ago, my body seems to react to that a little better. (results)

I'm not against propecia. I think there is a very small, vocal minority that is against it. It's my understanding that if you are going to experience sides they will occur in the first few weeks. About half of people who do experience sides have them go away after continued use.

I took finasteride 1 mg/day for a little over 1 year before experiencing any side effects at all. I experienced profound fatigue, lethargy, dizziness, and brain fog, along with a more gradual loss in libido. I am still recovering three years later. In hindsight, I would clearly choose to give up my hair rather than my mental sharpness, libido, and physical well being. I was 30 and in excellent physical shape when I started taking finasteride. I would at least urge you to think long and hard about taking finasteride. I would be happy to provide more details. |

jawbone - Can't say that either gave me more hair. Both have slowed down the loss considerably. I think that either my body got used to the Propecia after 6 yrs. or the loss just picked up a little. I decided to give Avodart a try before buzzing my hair down. I've had a few compliments from people the last couple months, kind of like when I started Propecia. With Avodart it seems like the hair is just a different texture, fuller maybe, hard to explain. Its put a stop to the loss again. Don't know if that's a good thing or if I'm just prolonging the inevitable..
