It's not suppose to be but I had joint and muscle pain when I was talking Androgel. I swtiched a few weeks ago to injections and now my pain has signifigantly subsided. Seems that there may be a connection but I don't know what exactly is the mechanism.

What TRT protocol are you on?

As to what you can do about it??? I guess it depends on what protocol you're on. Maybe switch to a different medication might work. Seems to be working for me.

I am on Androgel 7.5 mg a day right now so that may be whats causing my pain as well. Did you notice your fingers swelling or anything like that when you were on the gel?

I was the one that posted this a long time ago I went on Androgel when it came out and little by little my joints and muscles started getting very sore so bad that my Dr. felt is was Arthritis and had me on meds for it but nothing worked. My back was so bad that they did an MRI on it and all they found was some small amount of Arthritis in the disks not enough to cause the pain I was in. I posted this problem after being house bound for over 3 yrs and feeling like I needed a walker to move around. One of the guys at the H2 group at Yahoo got back to me saying he tried andorgel and had the same problme so he went back on shots but did them every week. I started on shots 14 months ago and today I walk 45 min.'s a day and go to the gym and work out 2 hrs 3 days a week no more pain. The gels for me don't get the T to my joints and muscles so they start to break down. Going on shots every week little by little my pain was gone.

Pmgamer has had the same problem which is partially why I wanted to switch to shots just to see if those pains would go away.

On my blood tests the only thing that was elevated was my DHT and it was only 1.5 (roughly) times higher than the upper range limit. Perhaps I’ve been starved of DHT for so long that my body couldn’t deal with having my DHT that high. I’d think that if that were the case my pain would have eventually gone away but given Pmgamer’s experience I question that idea. My doctor also thought that it could be bone growth due to higher T levels as T will promote bone growth. But if that were the case Pmgamer’s MRI would have showed something in his case.

So in the end I have no idea what can cause it guesses and potential solutions. Pmgamer has dealt with this more than anyone. Thanks to him I didn’t have to go through the same thing he did.
