Default klonopin

about 8 years ago I was diagnosed with GAD-- I know now that my anxiety was a by-product of low tesosterone. I visited a shrink and was given a prescription for klonopin. Don't get me wrong, this drug made my life bearable but now with TRT my GAD is greatly diminished. However, this drug is very habituating and I am having a tough time getting off of it. I have greatly reduced my daily dose.

I am 58, primary taking 7,5 g of androgel/daily , really into weight training/cardio-limited but healthy ; what are the big negatives of staying on a low dose of this pretty strong drug?? Let me make this perfectly clear---Klonopin is a dam good medication, imo, if you need it (contrary to the anti-benzo belief).

Thanking you all in advance!!

glad to hear that you are getting better....and healthier. Klonopin withdrawal is a slow process. Take your time in dose reduction. I have heard that this can go on for months....however, I am not a physican.

You can do this, dude. Don't sweat it. Years ago, I got off Xanax (which is slightly more addictive). My doctor just gradually decreased the dosage over several months. Piece of cake! I was on fairly heavy doses of Xanax for well over a year too! People get all spooked out about benzodiazopine addiction, but I think for many people, this really isn't an issue...They ARE addictive, don't get me wrong, but it's not like trying to get off heroine or anything like that. I agree w/ you - These drugs are often pretty miraculous! Good luck! I will tell you one thing about benzos (and you may have noticed this) - They don't do much for the libido or for good solid erections. They can have a negative effect on both of these things. What's your daily dose, btw?

Don't make it sound too easy to come off heroin or a benzo. Both are hellish in their own ways. It CAN be relatively painless and tolerable, IF done slow and under a doctors care, a competent doctor. Not many people can successfully taper off a drug on their own. Benzos are strong drugs make no mistake. Just take it slow and stay in touch with your doctor and you should be fine.
