a few weeks ago i went to see an endo re: low test, he ordered a bucket loads of bloodwork and tomorrow i see him for results...i think my low t is caused my me taking an ssri (paxil)...he seems to think same but ordered tests to rule out other causes... when i see him tomorrow, if he has assertained paxil is the cause, do u think he will refuse to treat me with trt and tell me to get off the paxil and then go back to him....or is it likely he will treat me with trt anyway? what do u guys reckon? (he seems like a nice guy) |

If you reckon he's a nice guy, he'll probably listen to your suggestions. If he's your run of the mill, authoritarian prick of a doctor, he'll do whatever he wants on a whim. Let's hope he fits the former description! Is going on TRT what you want to do? If it turns out Paxil is really to blame for your low T, you could most likely get good results jumpstarting your own system (hCG, SERMs etc.. I'm far from an expert here, so I'll wait for others to jump in before making any specific treatment suggestions). I always think that getting your own system up and running should be attempted first in secondary hypogonadism.. but that's just me. |

Well you need to see what your labs are there is a web site just about this SSRI's. Here is a link about it. http://www.mhsanctuary.com/rx/testos.htm At this web site there are a lot of men and women with low T and bad sex problems they claim are do to SSRI's. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ssrisex/

I predict your testosterone level will be 230 ng/dL and the endo will tell you that you fine as long as you can get an erection. I recommend lying and saying that you can't get one. Endos don't seem to be getting this hypogonadism thing. |

At least you doctor was self-righteous prick. I got exactly same results (script for Cialis and advice to make an effort to forget about sex) from reputable Director of Sex department in hospital in the middle of Manhattan NYC. His name starts Mull.... My blood still boils when I recal about that prick. I self treat since Jan 04 (succesfully). |

Geez, i guess my endo is out of the ordinary. She is a woman to boot. Im on a medication, well a few, and one of which comes from a family that is known to cause lower test levels. She didn't even suggest the idea that i should stop taking it and see what happens with my test. On the other hand, i doubt that is the cause of my low test. I'm very confident it came from steroid use in the past. And contrary to popular suggestions i was totally honest with my doc about that. I didn't even get a lecture about it. I got lucky i guess. Give your endo a chance before you decide to go the TRT route alone. |

Folks, be glad that you are not in Hawaii. The lab here has the bottom of the reference range at 198. What needs to happen, is the AACE needs to start emphasising symptoms over reference ranges. That would also help many people who are hypothyroid and adrenal insufficient. Those people look OK on paper, but are sick and miserable every day for the rest of their lives. But if there had to be a diagnosis based on numbers, the values given in that "Total Testosterone By Age" chart is a good number. Reference ranges provided by labs are skewed low because only sick people get blood work drawn.
