Just wondering what is happening biochemically that makes morning wood so good and reliable? You could have unreliable evening libido, but your morning wood could be solid, hard enough you could "hammer nails with it", and it lasts for hours. Have there ever been any studies on the endocrinology of morning wood vs. the state of the body at other times of the day? I am especially thinking it has something to do with brain chemistry (especially dopamine etc.).... are these brain chemicals easily tested in a lab setting? If a person could manipulate their bodies to duplicate the state they are in when first waking, there would be no need for viagra or any of that stuff. |

I didn't mean 'why' as in what are nature's reasons for it, I meant 'why' meaning what are the mechanisms for the high quality of these erections. what is going on in the body that makes a 2 hour rock solid erection in the early morning in a man that has no real desire, no sporadic erections, and unreliable erections when needed in the rest of the day? If we find out the answers to the hormonal recipes in the body that make this so, would we not be that much closer to solving many of our problems? |

Nothing to do with full bladder. I get up, go to the bathroom, go back lay down, get drowsy, extreme morning wood, lay there half asleep for an hour or two and the wood is very good and lasts. The rest of the day it is never up on its own, and takes some coaxing to get going usually. So your theory is that it is a stress hormone relation, that if we figure out how to get adrenaline and cortisol down that that is the holy grail answer to good wood? Interesting.... So drugs like valium would be a major sex enhancer then, would they not? |

There was a thread about this a while back. From what I remember, the consensus was that due to certain neural impulses during REM sleep, it resorts in a much harder erection than you'd normally achieve. Quote:

so it is figured that it is a neural impulse as opposed to a biochemical reaction? I am wondering how a neural impulse would directly result in that high quality long lasting erection? Or is it that the neural impulse results in a chemical change in the brain or glands that results in the erection? What were the conclusions? |
