I've read that it could reduce your libido, but that it can also increase libido. I take Adderall for my ADHD and I would like to give 5-HTP a try in an attempt to reduce the anxiety that sometimes comes with Adderall/
It could work I imagine, you could also try work with GABA instead of serotonin, if you are taking adderal I you should be taking a multivitamin particurly one with the full B complex.
5-HTP isnt something I would take, you could try fish oil, this increases the brains sensitivity to serotonin.
If I was in your position I would take B complex in the morning, Inositol+Choline in the afternoon or night, and 1 fishoil capsule 3 times a day and also a good vitamin E(gel based capsule not a tablet) Pinnacles Isomer-E is even better.
You might also want to switch from Adderal(dextroamphetamine + levoamphetamine) to Dexadrine(pure Dextroamphetamine), it is more addictive but has less side effects such as anxiety due to it being more pure.
If theres one brain chemical you dont wanna mess with its serotonin, 5-HTP is its precursor, so its simular to taking an anti depressent in a way, but theres no regulation on it and it does interact with other suppliments. Serotonin is mind numbing and regulates a lot of things in the body, gaba is relaxing, and dopamine is stimulating and fun, judging from my drug experiences I would prefere to have a dopamine imbalance then a serotonin imbalance.
I took 5-HTP off and on in the recent past and most of the time I found it increased my libido, but then I'm known to have an anxious nature, so it likely decreased percieved stress, which to me would explain the normalization effect on sex drive. Hasn't 5-HTP been shown at least in one study to lower PRL ? I seem to recall having seen such a study on Pubmed. I'd have a look should I had more time, but I'm leaving for work.
I use 5-HTP a few nights a week. It is wonderful if you have low serotonin levels, you may not notice a thing if your levels are normal unless you take large amounts.
If you have a HTPA axis issue, you may have low serotonin levels along with dopamine levels.
It will help a great deal and normalize your serotonin levels. Long term use at high doseage is not a good idea as high levels of serotonin can cause ED or loss of libido. 5-HTP should not be used at the same time as SSRIs. It can replace SSRIs for some people.
GABA is also very nice at bedtime and can give great dreams. Too much will result in tingle fingers. It is ok to use long term, but the effects will diminish.
Increasing Dopamine is also a great thing to do, if you are low it will seem amazing when you first use Selegiline. Also will reduce prolactian a tad.
Serotonin and Dopamine once normalized tend to stay normalized for an extended period of time so it is good to taper off or go to EOD or even once a week for 5-HTP and Selegiline.

It would be just while ur taking it.
Concurrent drug use: 5 HTP should not be used if taking:
1. Anti-depressant drugs
2. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
3. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI's e.g., Prozac)
4. Tricyclic medications
5. Weight Loss medications (i.e., dextenfluramine)
6. Anti-parkinson medications (e.g., L-dopa)
7. Barbiturates and other tranquilizing drugs
8. Antihistamines and cold medications
9. Alcoholic beverages
10. Intravenous (illegal I.V.) drugs
11. Cancer chemotherapy or
12. Antibiotic Medications.
I think 5-HTP is a lot better then taking an anti depressent, just treat it with more respect then your average suppliment, and never ever mix it with a MAOI. That above list is alil on the cautious side I think not too sure though, maybe a doctor here can fill us in a little more.
