Default DHEA and libido while on hrt

Do DHEA-s levels have anything to do with libido while on an hrt program?

If you test in the normal bottom 1/4 of the range, would there be any short term advantage to supplementation? Is there any other way to get the body to raise DHEA without actually taking DHEA?

I'm wondering the same thing. My endo mentioned that I registered low DHEA, and that may be a contributing factor to my waning libido. I'd like to know whether or now this is true.

I have always tested in the low normal range for DHEA so when I was on a compounded cream for T my Dr. at that time had them add DHEA to the cream. But my levels never went up much. Now I am taking 25 mgs. in a pill and my levels came up to the mid range. The benafit of taking DHEA is so slow it is hard to tell if one feels anything. Yet my Dr. feels one should have good levels for all hormones.

i have seen no clinical studies that demonstrate this however keeping dhea in the range for a 25 year old can not hurt!

Actually I believe that LOW DOSE supplementation of DHEA by women will reportedly help with their libido problems as DHEA converts (in women) to a slight amount of testosterone. Since their needs for T are much, much smaller than ours, this DHEA boost of T for them will often flag a lagging libido.

But just off the top of my head, I am aware of no studies that show this same effect in men - and if there were any it would be working (in men) by a somewhat different mechanism as the T increase (if any) would be insignificant.

Maybe in higher doses in a male if the male had sub normal levels of E2 and that was causing the libido problem? The higher dose DHEA would have some conversion into E2 and raise levels into a normal range, but that would be a very individualized protocol applicable only to males with low E2 (and where said low E2 was causing the libido problem)....

IMHO

Out of town right now. Will hold this in my Inbox and check my bookmarks for DHEA when I get home and see if I kept it. Will post if I locate it. Pretty sure about the particualrs. I know that low dose (5 - 25 mg range, more like 5 - 10 even better?) is important as the females can get masculine features on the higher doses sometimes.

My DHEA levels were very low. I haven't seen much improvement in libido while supplementing DHEA.
