Dr. Marianco: Lexapro vs Paxil for premature ejaculation?

I've struggled badly with this issue all my life and lost a my woman of 5 years because of it. When you really can't be very intimate for long periods of time you never develop that sexual bond with her. My penis is so sensitive and climax as soon as I begin and no technique helps trust me I've done them all. It's not in my head so I don't want to hear it. Although it is, but the wrong one which is too sensitive.

When I had my e2 and t in check I became a real horn dog and it made it worse. Prior to getting my t and e2 in check first round I would last 5-9 seconds tops, round 2 would be 25-35 second, and round three would be for like 45-50 seconds.

When my e2 was in check with t I would climax with in 3-10 seconds every damn round period!!!

clomipramine worked for premature ejaculation the one time I tried, but I was drowsy for 3 days after and limp!!

I have been talking 10mg of lexapro for 3 weeks now and no sign of helping it out. I dont want to gain weight and is why I choose lexapro instead of any other ssri.

Anyone with experiance with these meds can fill me in and which worked best and if you gained weight? I need this issue to go away for once in my life. Taking cialis of levitra would help if it didn't cost $60 for 3 dame pills!!

All I can say is I was on Paxil for 2 years and EVIL!!! I loss interest in everything and gained at least 40 pounds. I weaned off and it kind of freaked me out. I got bad mood swings and the zaps. It did help with PE for a while and then caused ED and sometimes there was no way I could ejaculate. Now I am on HRT and have the PE problem back but that is better then the situation with the Paxil. My wife isn't usually up to round two or it would be better. She has an appointment next month with a HRT doctor so maybe good things are coming.

Paxil was great for me. Could not ejaculate for crap. 40mgs. The effect seemed to wear off after a few months, but it would at least give you some time to learn another way psychologicaly speaking. Some people never get over the side effects. I would just make sure and have your woman on hand whilst trying the new drug. Paxil 40mgs takes about 3-7 days to work for your scenerio. I did not put on any weight myself. Paxil was pretty good for me overall.

In general this problem could be due to an overreactive local sympathetic nervous system effect. The SNS is responsible for your PE. PNS is imporant for keeping your penis erected mostly.

I have seen hope with seropram (citalopram) but at very low doses that is 1/4th of the standard 20mg antidepressant treatment. But considering my sexual function is dampened due to finasteride maybe this dose works so well with me. Others might need higher. I wouldnt suggest you take it every day, after alls it is a potent antidepressant med.

Serotonin reuptake inhibitors do the job in most cases, why you didnt see any response to lexapro is a wonder. Maybe you need to give it more time !!

I thought that lexapro doesn't have a lot or any antihistamines in it and maybe that's why? Not really sure what it is. Maybe I need a higher dose. Are you sure lexapro is supposed to help premature ejaculation? I find it easier to find info on other ssri meds that help PE and not much saying it about lexapro.

I tried Paxil to help me hold out a little longer and it worked well. But you had to take it for a couple of weeks before you noticed any imporvements. The probelm with it is that while you are on it, you lose the desire for sex. If you decide to discontinue using it, withdrawal is a bitch.

IMO Paxil is not worth taking for premature ejaculation.

IMO Paxil is not worth taking for premature ejaculation.

I would not try any psych meds for PE. I recently ordered a PE med called Climinax, and it worked well for me so far.

I have been on Paxil (paroxetine) for PE for about 8 months now. The results have been satisfactory. I take it daily at lucnhtime (10 or 20 Mg) with a combination of Sildenafil (50 MG) about 1 hr before sex. I have not gained any weight, and can climax at will. I am trying to wean off of it, and switch to 5-HTP which is also a serotonin inhibitor.

Take some vicodin or percocets, it will make you go at least 30 minutes to an hour before you ejaculate.

I still have not gained any weight on Paxil, and after a few month it works wonders for PE. I am down to 5 mg, daily and 10 mg on the days I expect to have intercourse. I still use sildenafil 50 mg, about 1 to 2 hours before intercourse, and can "go" for hours.
On the days I dont expect to have any intercourse, I take 5 mg of Paxil, or 2 5-htp (50 mg). I am trying to ween off the paxil completely and swith to 5-htp, which ahs the same effect.
