Hope this isn't too far of a stretch for a 'mens health' forum, but we are all scientists here, and I am wondering if there is any real scientific way to nip facial wrinkles in the bud, or are all the creams and dermabrasion and all that stuff just a gimmick? Is surface cream or abrasion anything that can actually change what is going on in the deep skin? |

I'll give you my best personal advice, from what I've read: 90% of wrinles are caused by collegen damage that occurs from UVB exposure from the sun. You need to wear a product (not yet approved by the FDA in the US, but approved in most other countries) that completely blocks UVB. Supplement with MSM, a multi-vitamin, anti-oxidants, and liquid silicon. The liquid silicon will promote collegen regeneration. Avoid facial products, they all have chemicals which enter the skin cells. The cells then must work to remove the toxins. That extra work causes the cells to age faster.

Facial expressions eventually - with the loss of skin fat with aging - contribute to the development of wrinkles. It is interesting to see the general emotional tone of a person's life based on their facial wrinkles. For example, people with anger have frown lines even when they are not angry. People with happy lives get crows feet. Botox is a very useful treatment for wrinkles. By paralyzing the muscles underlying the wrinkle, the overlying skin smooths out quickly. Botox injections last months. A person may get them generally every 3-6 months. Some people eventually get near permanent paralysis of the facial muscles injected - thus not needing injections frequently. A problem with Botox is using it in too many places on the face to the point a person has no facial expression at all. Then, a person can appear to have a flat facial expression even in jovial times.

another temp problem with botox in the forehead is ptosis of the brow/upper lid esp in men. Men tend to have stronger bigger muscles that produce deeper lines. In an effort to get rid of them too agressively, too much botox is used too early in the treatment and ptosis can result. So if Botox is used, go slow and realize that multiple visits are needed to get a good result. One of the benefits of botox is that the pt relearns NOT to use their facial muscles and the wrinkles can be decreased even after long term botox treatments are DC'd

retin A is actually effective. it takes a while but it does smooth things out, especially the forehead. only problem is skin dryness so a moisturizer is needed.other than that, its pretty effective in some area's. i remember using it for some acne and after a few weeks,my forehead felt like glass.very smooth.
