I just bought some vitamin D from the health food store today to start up for the winter again. I generally take 4000IU per day from October to April. Hopefully many doctors will get out of the 400IU per day mentality and start treating the deficiency correctly.

Blood testing is the only way. LEF.org and helthcheckusa.com both have affordable blood testing for vitamin D testing (the correct test is 25-hyrox-D). Different people need different amounts. Some need as little as 2,000iu daily, others over 10,000iu daily.

To achieve the desired range of around 60ng, it takes me 8,000iu daily. My wife takes around 4,500iu daily to get the same blood level.

It would be very safe to take 4,000iu for 2-3 months, then test to see where you are at, then adjust.

Then thing about vitamin D is that too little does very little good, and too much can cause excessive blood levels of calcium that can lead to problems. But you really want to get it right, the good things vitamin D helps you with, cancer, virual and bacterial infections, auto immune diseases, osteo bone and artritis, etc, make it too important to pass up.

So I guess I will be taking 4,000 for a while. I don't want to cloud the thread so can any one else give me some info on other vitamins

I take now mens adam along with others vitamins. I have started to feel better since taking something recenlty but not sure what it is. It might be E I have been taking or the D, maybe zinc or calcium. So shoudl I just post up my total vitamin intake here or start a new thread.

After a few months I will go to the doc and see if he will test the rest of my vitamins through my insurance.
