I recently had my IGF-1 (HGH) level checked. I am so low that I just barely exceed the lower limit by 6%, max is 280% of min. My doctor suggested a GH Stimulation test to see if I have a problem. I had a lot of difficulty getting the test and I know that insurance companies are reluctant to foot the bill for HGH. Still I am very close to medically justified HGH replacement therapy. My issue is this - the stimulation test assesses how much HGH is released from stores in the anterior part of the pituitary. I would like to do everything I can to help deplete those stores so I show a problem that justifies replacement therapy. In my opinion, I don't need to do much of anything but a gentle nudge shouldn't hurt. Anyone have a suggestion on depleting the pituitary stores of HGH? |

| GH is released in a pulsatile fashion by the pituitary, the greatest pulses being roughly 2 hours after falling asleep and during quick intense bouts of physical exercise. I suppose taking some time off from the gym, if you do workout, and not sleeping the night before the test could possibly lower levels. A poor diet, void in aminos could also potentially lower GH production, as I would think alcohol would. This is just MHO, so take it w/ a grain of salt, as I've never heard of anyone wanting to actually lower their GH levels. Also, we know IGF is a product of GH being destroyed by the liver, however, I was under the assumption that the half life of endogenous IGF was <30min, so I am confused on how this test could possibly be accurate anyway, although I know it is done. Maybe they test for some metabolite or binding protein? Wish I could tell ya more. Good luck to ya. wip |

Thanks for your input. It does not sound as if the knowledge in this area is deep here. I looked at my numbers again and decided I don't have much to worry about as far as producing a false healthy HGH response. I base my conclusion on the notion that I am in the 3rd percentile on a 100 percent scale. Compare that to your SAT score ranking. (You'd be lucky to get a job as a janitor with an SAT score in the 3rd percentile.) This whole exercise is directed at getting my health insurance to foot some of the bill for HGH replacement therapy. Otherwise, I would have started my therapy back in 2004. |

In regards to the test for stimulating GH levels, my endo mentioned an interest in having me test for it if my IGF-1 levels are low. She likes prescribing Test, GH and said that in some cases the drug company might actually pay for treatment if there is a definite medical need and the patient doesn't have insurance. That would be awesome . Anyway, she said the test for GH takes about three hours. Since they draw blood intermittently to get an average of levels. Hope this helps. |
