Im pretty sure Ive always had a serotonin imbalance. Ive always responded to SSRI's but I recently discovered my
testosterone is pretty damn low. Repeat testing over a period of three months confirmed this. I actually stopped using anti depressants to see if my
testosterone would increase. The increase was minimal. I am stuck at 250 total T. Coming off the meds my T was around 200. I am 32 years old.
Most of the studiesI have read about testosterone states that increasing it through testosterone therapy decreases serotonin. Ive also read some studies that have show evidence that testosterone deficiency can inhibit all of the neurotransmitters. There is also a strong link between testosterone deficiency and depression in men.
I figure I need to look into testosterone replacement but am concerned about its effect on serotonin. If testosterone replacement has been shown to be effective in treatment resistant depression, doesn't this suggest that optimizing testosterone can increase serotonin?
