Testosterone Therapy Improves Quality of Life in Men With Alzheimer's

Dec. 12, 2005 -- A daily dose of testosterone may ease the burden of Alzheimer's disease and improve the quality of life for men with the devastating disease. A new study shows testosterone replacement therapy improved the mood, overall well-being, and personal relationships of men with Alzheimer's disease. However, no improvements in memory or other thinking skills were associated with the treatment.... Alzheimer's disease is an age-related disorder, and researchers say the gradual loss of testosterone men experience as they get older may play a role in the progression of the disease. But they say this is the first study to look at the effects of testosterone replacement therapy on mood, behavior, and psychological health of men with Alzheimer's disease... After six months of treatment, caregivers of the men with Alzheimer's disease reported an improvement in the overall quality of life of the men, while those on the placebo experienced a significant decline... Quality of life measures included interpersonal relationships, physical health, energy, living situation, and overall well-being... Researchers say previous studies have shown that the gradual decline in testosterone that men experience with age leads to changes in mood and difficulty thinking that can be reversed with testosterone replacement therapy. In addition, studies have shown that middle-aged and elderly men with Alzheimer's disease had lower concentrations of testosterone than healthy men...

Lots of guys "know it", especially the experienced users and the medical types who visit this forum or even just lurk in the background... but it's always good to post the "new studies" (and often many of the older ones) so that new members (see posting in "Stickies" for the "Finnish Study" as relates to TRT and prostate cancer) - especially those looking for a TRT regimen - can print copy and print those studies out for their personal doctors who are hesitant to provide TRT as it will "promote prostate cancer" or "promote prostate growth" or will "act like a steroid". Many new members have limited choices in location TRT proficient doctors and don't have an unlimited optionwhen it comes to choosing a doctor (i.e., have to work with what they've got locally).

Personally, I'd like to see a "section" of the "Stickies" developed strictly for posting of Stickies just for those type of tests. Would eliminate having to searches throughout the posts. A specific sub section could be then established for each different "supplement":

(A) TRT Specific:

1. Testosterone
2. DHEA
3. DIM
4. TMG
5. Nettle Root Extract
(Etc., etc.)

(B) Nutritional / Health Supplements in General

Listings would include research / studies on various OTC and general health prescription items that would apply to general health and specifically Men's Health...

(For example)

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/health/...9/19coffee.htm

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10443011

http://www.webmd.com/content/article/116/112051

http://www.webmd.com/content/article/116/112088

http://www.docguide.com/news/content...2570D00069F30D

http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20041218/food.asp

And if the Board admin was going to go in that direction anyway, the organization of the Stickies in general might be a plan to consider...

IMHO
