Default Thyroid Medication (Levo/Armour)

I am still waiting on getting back the results from my test's both in the states and here in the UK. Only one thing has been on my mind since seeing Marianco is the whole T4 only vs Armour thyroid thing.

I posted a few times over at stopthethyroidmadness website and literally everyone is against the T4 only drugs like levothyroxine. Dr M prescribed me levothyroxine but with so much negative press about it i feel Armour would be a better option? I trust Dr M a great deal, he's the world's leading hormone doctor so i know i should trust his judgment but it's really difficult to truelly decide what to do. i know there must be a reason for putting me on this but why would adrenals be of concern if i am running it alongside prednisone?

I feel i truelly need to start making thing's better instead of worse because my skin, libido, ed and joints are all getting worse instead of better and it's quite a scary experience.

I sent Dr M an email but he's most likely busy right now so i am still awaiting his opinion on this.

Agree with JanSz - Dr M know's what he is doing & you flew along way to see him. Let him treat you properly.

Without test results, he may not want you on T3 (which armour also contains), until/if the results show your T3 is low. Therefore based on hypothyroid symptoms alone he may have determined T4 only is the best start - would raise your T4, and of course this converts to T3 as needed.

You may find once your test results are back, and you have a follow up ohone consultation with him - that he may tweak or add to your protocol. You can discuss armour with him then if you are concerned.

I would think you could start them at same time, as you will be starting low on the thyroid and building up over time. I started my adrenals one day before I started my thyroid - mainly due to having to wait for the thyroid meds.

Try not to get into the loop of following/asking what everyone else is doing, as you know everyone is different & treatments vary - you are seeing one of the best, so let him decide the best way to treat you & then don't stress about it anymore.

Yep I agree, give it a shot and see what happens.

I appreciate your concern given what youve read about T4, but Dr M is one of the best in the business. Armour will always be there if you need to try it later.

All those who are reposing faith in Dr M . What is the basis of your judgement ? With all due respect to Dr M and other doctors like him , has anybody here been helped and improved by Dr M ? Or your judgements are based on the posts that you have read.

#1 Mega had enough faith in Dr Marianco to make cross Atlantic travel from Europe to USA just to see Dr Marianco

#2 He have a plenty local quacks if he want but none helped him for years

#3 nobody on this board (for a year I think) was able to give Meaga help that he would use and be happy

Is there any reason not to have faith in him? He has a good reputation not only from his patients but from other reputable doctors as well.

I also made the trip to see him. My judgment is based on the 2.5 hrs initial consult he did with me, his diagnosis, explaination, professionalism and of course his knowledge.

I'm only 1 month into treatment - but am already starting to see more improvements than I did with various endo's/ dr's over the last 3+ years.

As always, thanks for the information and support guy's. I guess i am just a little anxious about the whole thing, but i am sure this will pass when i start seeing improvements.

I am a little scared that taking drugs like this will effect my ability to work and do my job, i am also anxious about the long term effects. However i have been informed on both parts that everything should improve, so i will simply take the plunge and see.

Dr Marianco is an exceptional doctor, just reading his posts on this forum were enough for me to know that. He has a strong passion for his subject and is also a very caring man. It's clear to see he is a good doctor so i shouldn't even be second guessing the levo.

Coz, what treatments are you on?
