Since you are so close to him, this would be a good idea. At least she will get the right treatment first time around.

Her thyroid numbers are fine. You don't have Free T4, but you can do it on her next lab. The doctor reduced her dose in order to have the TSH come back within range. TSH is not a good number to follow, and one should rather dose by symptoms instead of TSH. But her thyroid numbers as they are should not be causing her fatigue. If she is still fatigued on these numbers, then you will need to check her Adrenals. Do labs for DHEA Sulfate and also do a Saliva test for cortisol. They will take 4 samples for the saliva test to show how her adrenals are responding throughout the day. If her DHEA-s is low or her cortisol is low, supplementing these will make a big difference, and it will mean that her Adrenals are unable to keep up with thyroid demand. Try these labs:

Sanesco.net/Sanesco International
- Cortisol x 4, DHEA x 2 Saliva Test $89 (perhaps if they skip DHEA, it will be cheaper)

www.metametrix.com (they are more expensive than Sanesco, perhaps if they exclude DHEA, it will be cheaper)

Thanks this is my thinking also she had a 24 hrs urine test that came back normal but we don't have this the last Endo did this. I also have asked her to have her hormones checked E's and all but like I said thinks I am playing Dr. In the above of my post this cut & paste said
"also hormone replacement therapy which is only expected to be
temporary, Vliet in "Screaming to be Heard" mentioned low estrogen can cause
high cortisol, another connection to the adrenals) she no longer has high
cortisol. "

When the big cancer scare came out about HRT she stopped her Estrogen and Predigestion (spelling) treatments. I have told her many times there are safe HRT meds pellets, compounded creams and such. But this gets back to my playing Dr. The first thing I saw when she stopped HRT was the loss of her libido. I feel she needs this checked also.

It's actually best to get her to a good doctor that she is going to listen to. You can try locate a doctor through www.womensinternational.com . They will give you a list of doctors in your area that order from them. Find one that specializes in women, and hopefully takes her insurance. If the doctor doesn't take her insurance, I am sure she wouldn't need more than 4 visits and then once every while for follow ups.

I disagree, her FT3 is not good. Whether that's causing her fatigue or not, I don't know.

Her labs range is lower:
T3 FREE = 2.67 range 1.5 - 3.5 pg/mL
putting her at 76%

My local labs range is:
2.30 - 4.20

Phil,

As it has been stated, TSH is not a useful number and Free T4 labs are needed to determine if your wife has adequete levels and if she is converting T4 to T3. Some people are good converters, some are not. Also selenium, tyrosine, and sometime iodine enhances conversion, and avoidance of certain foods such as soy and taking calcium close to the same time as the Armour. Also the Armour should be taken under the tongue or in the cheek to dissolve.

Thryroid is best treated by elimination of symptoms rather than labs. A great website is www.stopthethyroidmadness.com

I believe there is a theory that proper HRT for a woman can boost the immune system and cause the body to follow a proper cycle of apoptosis (programmed cell death).

The trick is that the body metabolize estrogens properly, especially the bad ones such as xenoestrogens. Metabolism can be enhanced by using DIMM, Calcium D-Glucarate, fish oils, regular exercise, and a healthy diet for starters.

I find it odd that women develop breast cancers in our country, especially ones that are estrogen positive. American women have about a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer. In Asia it is about 1 in 10,000.

I think you did the calculation wrong. It should be like 64%. But you are right, that's not that bad.
