Default Use of vitamin E in transdermal T preparations to reduce E2

I posted the following info on the Yahoo Hypogonadism forum and thought I would post it here as well. A caveat, though, is just because something is written in a patent doesn't necessarily mean it's true. A second caveat is that simply by adding vitamin E to your T cream/gel you are technically in violation of the patent according to Claim No. 1 of the patent. (My thinking on this, though, is that the inventor would actually be appreciative if enough people were successful using this idea such that it caught on and ultimately led to licensing rights and royalties for use by compounding pharmacists and/or manufacturers of products such as AndroGel and Testim.) I'll be interested to hear whether people have any success in reducing E2 by adding vitamin E (either the alpha- or gamma- variety, as indicated in the patent) to their transdermal cream or gel.

**********************************

This patent (U.S #6,743,448) contains some interesting
information, including the idea that when vitamin E is
mixed into a transdermal T gel/cream it apparently
significantly reduces aromatase activity:

I suppose that one might make a homemade version by
adding some of the contents of a vitamin E capsule to
your T cream and mixing it together just before
applying it to the skin . . .

They successfully prosecuted quite broad claims for this patent.

Type my name into the Search. Surprise!

A man of many talents, our Dr. John.

It is true, Dr. Kryger's claims are broad, but they may not hold up well if anybody challenges the patent in court. Also, he didn't cite much art, so he runs a risk of losing his claims on reexamination.

I edited this to correct a typo.

You obviously have some knowledge of the patent process.

BTW, I no longer live at that address.

The link is to summary of a patent issued to Dr. Abraham Kryger for his formulation of testosterone cream. We were talking about the claims.

SWALE recommended searching his own name in the Patent Office database, and here is the result.

Dr. John, we're glad that you decided to become a doctor instead of pursuing this other thing.

Looks like he used one of the "inventor services" from an infomercial.

Actually, if you think about it, his claims are pretty narrow. The invention is simultaneous transdermal administration of testosterone and an aromatase inhibitor. But his claim is limited to vit. E. So the only way to infringe his claim is by adding vit. E to a testosterone cream.

It would be interesting to look at the prosecution history. He may have had to settle for T + Vit. E because topical application of an aromatase inhibitor is already known.
