Default How bad is fruit while dieting??

Trying to curb my appetitie between meals with protein & fruit. I'm sticking to fruits low on the glycemic index i.e. cherries, apricots, etc. I'm also taking Vanadyl with the fruits to help promote and "insulin" like effect. Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated.

There was an article in MD that did a study with a group eating grapefruit and a group without. The group eating grapefruit lost 4 more pounds over 12 weeks. The same results were acheived with an apple.

I have read articles b4 that said grapefruit had ABSOULUTLY NO effect on weight loss.

The book "Metabolic Typing Diet" by William Wolcott goes over how each person is individual, and while one person might get ripped while eating fruit, another might gain fat. Some people have to cut the carbs really low while others do fine keeping it high. Even Charles Poliquin says 75% of his clients do good on low carb while the remaining 25% do well on high carb.

If you handle carbs fine, then some fruit would be ok. You might have to adjust based on your experience, though. Most fruits are about 50% fructose (except bananas, which are about 30%), but the real problems with fructose comes from things like sodas which contain high fructose corn syrup, which is about 80% fructose. Since fructose doesn't stimulate an insulin response, this gives things like soda seemingly low glycemic index for being sugar water! (in the 60s). That's when fructose is a real problem...when you get really high levels of it with not much else - this raises blood sugar levels without an insulin response...so you're left with lots of sugar staying in your blood! Not good.

Now if I may recommend two supplements to help manage carbs well. Alpha lipoic acid, of course, at at least 600mg, and up to 1200mg per day. Another is called "carb support" from a small company founded by two pharmacists I know. It contains a whole lot of ingredients to help manage blood sugar and increase insulin sensitivity. In my experience, it helped reduce ehunger between meals as well.

Here's the link to that supplement: http://askrph3.com/Merchant2/merchan...ategory_Code=c

Very imformative Frosty, thank you. I do have 1 question though if you don't mind ....you say that Fructose doesn't promote an insulin spike or response (I never knew that, you learn something everyday) so taking Vanadyl with fruit is basically doing NADA due to the fact that Fructose doesn't spike your insulin levels so the Vanadyl is not "shuttling" carbs into the muscles because there is no insulin spike? Is this statement correct? Sorry if doesn't make too much sense, I tried to word it the best I could. Thanks bro for all your help.

Ed mass...I eat like 3 Ruby Red Grapefruits a week...like you I'm not sure what the "magical" ingredient in grapefruit is that supposedly burns or helps to burn fat. I know I like the Ruby Red's though, lol.

Good fiber source also, which helps out. I like to have one for breakfast with some meat.

So when tring to stay lean , real lean an apple is cool?
I was looking at things, for instance a u turn bar has 12g of sugar 8 or 9g of fat 30 g of protien 300 cal. If you cutting an your normally eating that bar an would it be better to have like a med apple an a protien shake?
Protien bars are convient, great in a rush, but damn. THe amount of shit u can eat vs a bar is crazy. A bar doesnt do shit, i eat it, 30min im hungary as hell again. 300 + calories in just about all of the. Instead of a dumbass bar i could have 2 chicken breast and 2 cups of veggies which is a hell of a lot more filling. lol
Im cutting the u-turn, replacing it with an apple and shake! lol

Fruit is okay in moderation. I am using apples, pears and occationally an orange or peach for variety. I also use vandyl sulfate with my fruit to control glucose. You will find it much easier to handle a diet with fruit included.

Apples & pears provide alot of fiber and bulk for a few calories and are very filling. Indlude a little protein with a large apple and you have a really good "between" meal. I find 10 2200mg aminos and an apple perfect.
