Default How much protein at one time?

Does anyone know of any science or way to prove how much protein you can take in at one time? I am 290 lbs so I may be able to take in more than someone 200 lbs but is there any science behind it?

I would like to take in 600 gm a day but would I need to space it between 12 meals or can I take 80-100 at a time?

Considering that 600g is way overkill, it wouldnt matter how many meals it took for you to get all that in. The most that has been shown to be beneficial in studies is about 2g/kg or roughly .9g/lb. And this is coming from the world's foremost leader on protein research for athletes, Peter Lemon.

While I tend to agree with you, what about all the athletes that make gains doubling their protein? Is it because they are doubling their calories?

I take in about 75 grams per meal and I have no problem digesting that. Sometimes after a workout I'll take in a 100 gram protein shake and I can tell that it may be it bit much to digest.

I noticed a difference in gaining good quality muscle just from upping protein to 2 grams per pound of bodyweight.

Some may not agree, and say it's too much....but it works for me and many other guys.

Well, calories wouldnt be doubled, but they would certainly be increased. You could achieve the same thing by adding in carbs to make up the difference and pocket the extra cash that would have otherwise be spent on protein.

I heard that the body can only process 20g of protein an hour max.

Taking any more then the body can handle is just passed through unused.

That maybe total bull S, but its just what I heard once.

Its total bullshit and has absolutely zero references to back it up. Its bunk and I wish that damn myth would die.

Most AAS are used so the body can synthesize more protein, right? So without knowing a person's normal metablic rate, activity level, amount of "supplement" and a slew of other factors, it's hard to nail down how much a body can digest.

But if you are going for a full on bulking cycle, would you prefer to give your body possibly more or less of the building blocks it needs to grow?

600grams!!! That is alot of work for you kidneys--- I really dont understand the need for that much--- Bodybuilders consume way too much protein-- Your body can only use so much of that and the other is going to be turned to fat!!--Yes your body can and does store protein as fat-- I use to be caught up in the huge amounts of protein, but I think there is a point where it is just ridiculous and these stupid bb magazines push protein so hard that it eventually sinks into your head--

Just my opinion--

You. I thought the mimicking of your sentence would have made the point. I'm sorry for not being clearer.

And don't think I was being sarcastic or anything there, thought it sure does sound that way.

Yes, I suppose I can do that. Although, care to give a reason as to why you would hold the opinion that, miraculously, unlike any other macro nutrient, protein bypass all metobolic pathways and simply disappears when you've eaten too much?

I sort of just answered your question with a question, so let me try again.

The law of thermogenesis states that a body in a caloric surplus will accrue bodyfat or LBM, dependingly. If you eat too much protein and are in a caloric surplus, then the result is self-evident.

I think I like the smartass answer better. Technically, the second answer could have been given better, but I'm in a rush and I"m about to leave.

I eat 6 meals a day plus 3 protein shakes.Basically each mael consists of 40 grams of protein and the shakes average around 50grams.I'm 6'4",260lbs,12%BF and this meal plan works fine for me while I'm " on ".

600 mg of protein daily...is disgusting and unhealthy....Think about your liver and kidneys! 450mg's daily is the most one should consume considering height and weight...anything more is destructive and a waste of $$$!!! im 6'2'' and weigh 255 and I consume 350g protein daily with great results!
