| Nutrition / Supplements Forum: This is a discussion on Lyle - whats up with soy? within the Bodybuilding forums, part of the extensive steroid information at MESO-Rx; For the past few years, I and many others were under the belief that soy protein is an inferior protein ... |

I'm telling you, Bob, don't go down that road. It starts with the occasional plate of beans or shake, but it progresses. It progresses quick. I've seen it a million times. Next thing you know you're eating veggie burger and tofu turkey. You'll start spending more on food for your dog than you will for yourself, you'll end up not bathing for weeks on end and your girlfriend will have more leg and underarm hair than you. This is a dangerous path. You must be cautious. DARE to say no to the hippie soy pushers. |

As far as protein quality, i don't think normal soy protein is very good. At least one or two studies show that it gets used up by the splanchnic area (gut and intestine) and isn't as effective at promoting protein synthesis. Most likely an issue of the amino acid profile. Commercial soy powders (i.e. Twinlab's old Vege Fuel) usually have the limiting amino acids added and might not have that problem. As far as the estrogen issue, fuck if I know. If I had to guess at it now, I'd say that the phytoestrogens (which are weak estrogens relative to what's found in the body) might be beneficial for women (competitive inhibition of estrogen receptor leading to overall LESS estrogenic activity) and maybe bad for men. Whether commercial soy protein powders contain much in the way of phytoestrogens, I don't know. how's that for a fucking useless answer? I know Brink is a big fan of soy but I suspect he's referring to commercially made soy isolates which are probably a different animal than soy foods. Considering all the readily available protein sources that are out there (meat, milk, whey, eggs, etc), why not just use those and avoid the whole issue? Lyle |

But becoming a tree hugging hippie has one advantage: you get to bang free love hippie chicks. Just bitch to them about how the military-industrial governmental complex is detroying mother Earth/Gaia/whatever and how it really gets to you as a sensitive new age guy (SNAG) and she'll spread for sure. Start to shed a tear to show how much it's affecting you and you're home free. Saying you're pagan will accomplish the same thing. You'll get invited to go get drunk and dance around in the woods naked and bang pagan chicks. Then again, with all that body hair and the stench of patchouli (sp?), maybe that's not really an advantage. Lyle |

I was drinking lots of Soy "chocolate" milk. The taste was yummy heehee. After about 2 months I felt weaker just less overall drive. About 2 weeks after I stopped drinking it I was back to normal. Maybe I was takeing to much Soy. However there is this guy that goes to the gym that competes and swares by Soy so everyone is different but I know for me it was terrible. Granted I didnt get testerone test done but I know I felt weak untill I stopped takeing it. I actually began to start feeling better about 5 days after I stopped drinking it and took me 2 weeks to get back to normal. In your case its not a problem but I know it was for me. At the time I didnt even know Soy might reduce your test levels so it wasnt Psyhcosamatic but I just felt it had to be the Soy. I was even starting to feel slightly depressed. I will never even have Soy sauce again heehee. Darter |
