Default Overeating?

I have i slight dilema i cannot train my upper body for the time being because i have strained i ligament in my shoulder. But i am nevertheless training my hamstrings on a leg extention, squats for my quads, and seated calf raises for my calfs. I train very hard doin every 4 days 4 to 5 sets of 5 to 7 reps for each of these muscles making sure i go to faliure. I dont know when im gion to be able to train my upper body, mayby a month mayby 3. Im not too concerned in one respect because my legs are seriously laging in muscle compared to my upper body. The thing is ive been tryin to build size on my legs eating 4 nutritional meals a day a weight gain drink and a protein shake inbetween meals along with hmb capsules, vitamin formula, and desicated liver tablets, between 4000 and 5000 cals a day and my upper body is gettin very fat. my stomach has got so big i look like ive been stuck in a bar for ages swillin beer. Oh and ive been eatin nuts to top up my fat intake. am i gonna have to grin and bear it or cut down on something cos if i get any bigger ill start to look like my dad lol.

unless you are over seven feet tall, this looks like a mass building program. LOL. You are doing legs 4 times a week. This would be over the top even on an HST program. Why not cut at least one of those day from lifting--go to alt. days--go over to the HRT site for a routine. Cut some calories. Add some treadmill or stationary cycling. Learn to do some core training to compliment the lifting.

If you were training your legs the way you should then you would only be able to train them once a week!

Bullshit! Complete and utter bullshit. In fact, I was going to suggest to you, elgaringo, to check out the 5X5 sticky. Now, obviously, you won't be doing most of the exercises. However, you could just follow the 3X/wk squatting as it is utilized in there and you'll make better progress, more than likely. It'll also have the added bonus of keeping the rest of you in better shape, too, as the rest of your body will be getting a workout through the squats 3X/wk, too as opposed to the 1X/wk it gets now.

Also, you might think about unilateral training. According to Freddy, there is good support for training the uninjured side in order to preserve muscle mass on BOTH sides.

{I suspect}The only reason your legs are behind your upper body development is because you have never really put the same effort into them as much as your upper body and/or could not really be bothered much with legs as you enjoyed the upper body size pump. When you train legs they start to grow and get stronger quite fast{within 6 months}.If you are able to, do squats, squats and more squats. If not do leg presses.I personally would'nt bother going to hard on leg presses if I have alreally killed em on squats{not to say I have'nt}.You could do what Grizzly suggested 5x5 programme.Or you could do heavy squats one workout, then heavy leg presses 3 or 4 days later with some extensions added in,mixing it up,but make sure you have recouped enough to have plenty or power,I would'nt do heavy{MAX} squats more than once a week myself, but you might like to do more reps with a moderate weight,on a day you call your "lite" day. I think as long as you do train them with reasonable effort they will grow.
It's really good to you have'nt given up on pumping iron altogether and are going to work on your weak point. You dont need to grow a big guts to get big legs either bro,lol
