Some say it makes their joints supple, i believe it does for me, some people on this site believe its good for bumping up calorie intake. Im not so sure this is a good idea because about 3 months ago I had to stop takin them because I had severe stomach cramps and sickness for 3 days even a bite to eat caused extreme pain. I learned was due to talkin 6 a day for about 6 months I learned from a internet site this was possible I didnt know you could overdose on fish oil . Im not sure everyone would have the same side affects but this was my experience. Im now takin 1 a day strictly for supple joints.

If, in fact, your stomach issues were related to fish oil intake, its likely that you had a contaminated batch. Ive never heard of those type issues.

Fish oils are one of teh few supplements that I recommend. They literally have dozens (hundreds?) of benefits for health, fat loss, joints, skin care, and on and on.

BS,

Which brands of fish oils do you use? I'm trying to hunt some down online.

You really have to watch out when taking high doses of fish oil because the fish oil sold in health food stores has a lot of impurities like mercury & PCBs. They also contain weird fats from the algae that the fish eat- yes, the fish get these omega-3 fatty acids from the algae that they eat. Contrary to what that link says, Cod Liver Oil is not better for you.

These contaminants are probably what caused your stomach problems. If you're going to to have more than 2 or 3 grams of Omega-3's (the typical amount found in 10 1000 mg gel caps, you have to consider buying a pharmaceutical grade fish oil. These are purified, contain 2x as much omega-3s and have little to no contaminants. Check out this site- International Fish Oil standards - an independant company that tests various fish oils.

http://www.nutrasource.ca/ifos_new/index.cfm

There are a few vendors of pharmaceutical grade fish oil and they are listed on there. I take about 7 grams of omega-3s (not 7 grams of fish oil-7 grams of omega-3s) per day and have had great results- both clinically (bp, cholesterol, Triglycerides), and anecdotally (more energy, good outlook on life, decrease in aches & pains).

You won't find Mercury in any fish oil on Mercolas site and it doesn't say cod liver is better ... better for some and different times of the year .. Trust me Mercola knows alot more than you when it comes to health

Good for your joints, lipid profile, fat metabolism, about the only thing they're bad for are the fish ! Never got sick on them; try a different brand/source

Well, he may know more than me when it comes to health, but I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to fish oil. All I'm trying to do is make people more aware of problems associated with fish oil, including cod liver oil. Any kind of marine oil at that price has levels of contamination that would be problematic at mid-high dosages. It's a problem intrinsic to fish oils and it doesn't matter who you are, it is pricey to remove the contaminants.

Udos is an ideal blend....if you are already balanced with your omega intake. The problem is, which is very clearly detailed in his book, is that people are nowhere near balanced; they are heavily weighted towards omega-6s. For that reason, I think focusing on the w-3s is more important. But for most people, any supplementation with omegas will be a vast improvement.

I would bet my right arm that the stuff he has on his site, doesn't have Mercury in it. He is very big on keeping mercury out of ones diet. He doesn't even like grain feed cattle ... grain feed! Again,i would bet my right arm .. and my left foot on it
