Default France proposes Global Tax at the UN.

French President Jacques Chirac accused Washington of obstructing a worldwide campaign to eradicate poverty. Chirac spoke after the U.S. administration declined after two high-level meetings to endorse a final declaration that was supported by 110 countries.

"It is up to us to give globalization a conscience," he said.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Ann Venemen rejected the idea of a global tax proposed in a U.N. report and favored by some of the participants, including France. "A global tax is inherently undemocratic," she said.

"How many more times will it be necessary to repeat that the most destructive weapon of mass destruction in the world is poverty?" Chirac asked during a speech at a session that focuse on a U.N. report about the growing divided between the world's haves and have-nots.

although i hate to agree with the Froggies, i don't think the premise is a bad one. every country contributes their part in global hot spots through a global tax, instead of the US always flipping the bill. i would assume the funding would only kick in if the UN agrees with the recourse, which would limit the US's ability to operate unilaterally.... ok yeah fuck that idea.

The Global Tax basically is the "Robin Hood" approach to poverty in Third World countries. We have too much, so to even out wealth we would be taxed to raise their cost of living.

Global Welfare

seeing how the french made millions upon millions selling weapons to Iraq during the embargo after they themselves signed and endorsed the embargo, maybe the french should give all those millions to the poor countries. as we know, germany and russia did the same thing so, if they back this idea of a global tax, the germans and russianss should give up there fair share too.

besides, its abso-fucking-ultely hillarious that anyone, and i mean ANYONE, thinks the UN can be trusted.

have a nice day

Right and the US has so much because it just magically appeared. It has nothing to do with the longest work day, work week, work year in the world. Nothing at all to do with that. Since the US just conjures money out of thin air, it only makes sense that we should give it away. Dickheads!

Not only are the arguments above valid, but what about the underlying (and to me, the more important) problem with this tax...

By allowing the U.N to impose taxes upon the United States, the U.S. effectively gives up sovereignty as a country.

Exactly!!!!!

The UN has zero jurisdiction on US soil at this point, and if we allow this I truly believe we are opening up a can of worms.

Plus, the UN cannot even regulate/control their own people (Oil-for-Food anyone??)...why would we trust them to handle our tax dollars.

Personally, the UN is a joke and I think we should just say "fuck all of you, suck my cock, we are out of here [the UN]).

Oh he will get the French and Germany involved, but they will NOT SEND TROOPS!!!.

Kerry will grant France and Germany many construction contracts to smooth things over with them.

Wow! A " global tax ' ?! Good Lord that sends shivers down my spine. Do you know what happens to money that we send to these countries? No? Well, either does the rest of the world! It gets stolen, " lost " , " re-routed " , etc. I don't even trust OUR government with MY money! Do you think I'm gonna trust the French, Russians, etc?! The U.N. is completely absurd. You know you have a great organization when you have a country like China on the Human Rights Committee.

AND WE WANT THESE GUYS IN IRAQ?

Twelve French soldiers on peacekeeping duties in Ivory Coast have been arrested in connection with a bank theft there last week.
The troops had been assigned to protect a branch of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) and were charged with stealing $120,000 (100,000 euros).

French military spokesman Colonel Henry Aussavy said the accused soldiers were being sent home to face French justice.

More than 4,000 French troops are serving alongside UN peacekeepers.

IMO, what is even more disturbing is that George Soros and many others want the UN to regulate gun sales in the US and basically repeal the 2nd amendment.

The thought of giving the UN any more power than they already have is downright frightening IMO!!!

The UN is a worthless organization that does NOTHING!!! They refuse to take action against N. Korea, they will not take a stand against Iran, and they will not step in and take charge in Sudan. WTF do they do???? They are all talk. They threaten sanctions, but never follow thru.
