Default Navy challenges Kerry's medals.

Navy Challenging Kerry's Medals

The United States Navy is challenging the authenticity of Sen. John Kerry's Vietnam War medals, in a development that could prove to be the most damaging yet to the embattled Democrat's presidential campaign.

A Navy spokesman is calling Kerry's Silver Star citation with Combat V "incorrect" as it appears on his campaign Web site, explaining in an interview with Chicago Sun-Times reporter Thomas Lipscomb that the Navy has never issued a Combat V at any time for the Silver Star.

The Navy also is questioning the listing on Kerry’s Web site of four bronze campaign stars for his service in Vietnam. The official naval record credits Kerry with just two Vietnam campaigns.
"That is sufficient for the wearing of the Vietnam Service Medal for one campaign bearing one campaign star for the additional campaign — not four," reports Lipscomb in today's New York Sun.

Kerry's campaign has repeatedly cited the Navy as the ultimate authority on the candidate's war record, saying the Navy wouldn't have awarded him medals he didn't deserve.

But with the Navy now publicly challenging Kerry's decorations, that defense has been rendered inoperative.

Noting that Kerry has refused to authorize the release of his full military records, the legal watchdog group Judicial Watch called on Kerry this week to remove any questionable citations from his Web site pending a formal investigation by the Navy.

"It is to your best interest to have your record in good order," Gen. Thomas Wilkerson, the president of the U.S. Naval Institute, told Lipscomb. "If it is wrong, you are accountable. And if you use it to advance your career, it is even more important.”

don't you just hate shit like this... Geez. I wish they'd shut up until they had the answers. Instead they report stuff that just makes people look like asses... and that's all that's necessary during an election year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not pro Kerry. I'd vote for Bush. But I still hate this shit.

You just know some dipshit who made his website got the wrong info, or that's what they'll say. We'll never know any real truth about this.

Actually, the info was supplied by Kerry. He was shown in 1971 speach wearing the afore mentioned medals.

His DD214 could be wrong I guess?

I agree all this stuff is getting annoying. What about the issues that really count? Now the Navy is going to investigate his metals? Who is paying for that? Oh tax payers great.

in theory it would take a few keystrokes to check their database, so that shouldn't count, but lets wait to see what happens... oh the fun of politics and lies...

if Kerry wasnt lying about things, he would simply release all of his records for the world to see. Bush did it, why cant Kerry? Dems bash Bush for his service and its justice. Reps bash Kerry for his service and its an attack on a hero's patriotism?!?!?!?! WTF?!?!

bottom line in the whole fuckin election.......John F. Kerry has lied/is lying about his service therefore he is not trustworthy. If you throw in his 19 year record in the senate, then you have even more against him- most Liberal voter, likes tax raises, only present for a small percentage of votes.....hes not fit for command. period.

GWB stands alone even when it is unpopular because he believes he is doing what is right. He has taken the offensive on terror and set into place a foundation for domestic policy which he can continue to build on for the next 4 years.

i fully agree quasi. if he's so damn proud of his record in the war, you'd think he'd have it plastered all over the place.

my "cospiracy theory" about this is that since he's been/is a major player in the senate, maybe he knows people who can actually change his record in his favor. maybe thats what he stalling for. what do you think?

have a nice day

No Quasi, not this time. He could end all this by releasing his records. Then maybe we could focus on the real issues.

That COULD also account for some of the apparent mistakes with his sense of time. I dunno WTF is going on exactly..

That said, i myself had a mistake on my own dd-214 that i didnt notice until i was in my senior yr in college, it had my rank at discharge one pay grade higher than i actually was. Whether kerry edited his record to show the V or whether in was mistakenly put into his record , i'd be very interested in finding out. Keep in mind the ppl processing you for your discharge are e-2's and e-3's...typically 18-19yo's..It was a mistake widely made in the VN war era.
